Please don't use babelfish or anything else coz I've already tried that. This is what needs translating:
Het grootstedelijk gebied rond L.A., dat zich uitstrekt over een afstand van ongeveer 100 km. vanaf het centrum, huisvest 14 miljoen mensen. It's especially 'grootstedelijk' that bothers me.

I would suggest asking this question in the French YA site. (See bottom of home page) There are likely to be people in France who speak both, but not many Americans speak both.

The word grootstedelijk means urbain(e) in french

In English it means;
The suburban area around LA,that streches out to be about 100 k.m. from downtown[center],has a population of 14 million people.Sorry I do not know enough French.

'Grootstedelijk' compare it to ''greaterToronto"
'stedelijk' 'sted' from 'stad' which means 'city'
