For one thing, Isaiah 40:22 also tells us about "the circle of Earth" at a time when the general thought was that the Earth was flat and there were "four-corners of the Earth".
Job 26:7 says, "God hangs the Earth on nothing". So, yes, the Bible does discuss Earth's placement in the void of space.
Isaiah 40:22 teaches that "God stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in." To me, that supports an expanding universe not a "shell".
So, anytime somebody offers to take you up in their "aeroplane" and bang your head into something, be vary wary.

Well, kinda...
The Bible's version was that there is this shell, called the Firmament, around the Earth holding the waters back. Stars are little specks stuck onto this shell.
Genesis:
1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
1:7 And God made the firmament and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
Genesis:
1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
Ezekiel
1:22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.

Please, the ignorant goat-herders who wrote genesis thought the stars were little lights in heaven. God created the entire rest of the universe on the fourth day and spends the rest of the creation time fiddling with earth. If that doesn't scream ignorance about the size and contents of the universe I don't know what does.

as nondescript has already pointed out, the bible teaches that the sky has a lid on it (the firmament) and above that lid outer space is full of water.
you don't believe the sky has a lid on it?
do you want me to take you up in my aeroplane and bang your head against it?
