Not necessarily in various sizes, but, you can get lots of free boxes at liquor stores. In fact, there is one store near my house where they keep piles of empty boxes out in front of the store, so people can just take them as needed. Maybe its more common at this time of year so people can ship gifts?

Whenever I need to get boxes for storage, I go to the back of the Dollar General store. They get daily shipments, have tons of boxes there and they dont shred them. They are happy to let people take what they need.

Use the search engine. Key in free cardboard boxes followed by your towns name. Or use craigslist.org or kijiji.com, they're all good.

Liquor stores give them out for free, just make sure you call them a head of time.

See if there is a Freecycle.org chapter near you. People are always swapping moving boxes.
Post stuff you want to be rid of or stuff you are seeking...all free.
