Yes, it's true. We are not allowed to do any type of work--where work is defined as those categories of labor (39 in all) that were required to build the Ark during the Israelites' 40 years in the wilderness. I've put a good link below. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any other questions!

Try not to define it negatively. Salvation is the offer of a contract of marriage from YHVH. If you accept that contract, You become part of the "bride of the Messiah". You take His name, and follow His rules. The focus of Sabbath is resting in Him. It is true that we are directed not to "work". Not to hire others to work for us. (these two cover most of the prohibitions you mention.) I had two real good spiritual questions that I did not have time to answer yesterday. I addressed them this morning. Was that wrong? I don't think so. Ask YHVH. He has promised to tell you, to guide you so you can do those things that are pleasing to Him. YHVH says come, let us reason together. Rest from our busyness is the main focus of the Sabbath.......Sabbath blessings to you. E-mail me if you want to.

The way to observe the Sabbath is outlined in the Bible but I'm too lazy to enter it in my concordance. Staying away from evil works pretty well and rest.

On the seventh day, God rested. He instituted the sabbath to give The Hebrews a day of rest. I'm not sure what goes on with it nowadays.

The Sabbath is a day of rest; in it we are not to do the things for our plesure.
"You must obey God's law about the Sabbath and not do what pleases yourselves on that holy day. and honor it as the Lord's holy day. You should honor it by not doing whatever you please nor saying whatever you please on that day." (Isaiah 58:13 NCV)
