hi,
i am a doctor..
well, i know that sore throat is such a pain.

for the time being, use salt water to gargle your throat.do it 3 times per day.
when you goto sleep do it as the last thing so that you wont wash you mouth after the salt water gargle.

do some steam inahaltion.do it about 2 times per day.it would help.
take some hot water into a bowl.then cover you head with a towel and inhale the steam.

but you may have to take antibiotics if it is a bacterial infection.
the best thing is to get a throat swab culture and ABST done.
it would determine whether this bacterial or viral.consult your doctor for this.

if its viral there may be no need to take anitbiotics. but you just cant sometimes differentiate from examination alone.

for the time being do the above mentioned things.
also avoid drinking cool things and drink more and more hot water and hot beverages.

if you want more info, feel free to write to me..

Oh dear, it sounds like you just might have a vicious case of flu. Your boss was right to send you home.

Ideally you would head for the ER. But if you HAVE to stay at home, the important thing is to get rehydrated. The last time I was sick like that, I had a sip of Coke Classic and crushed ice every 5 minutes. The coke will help settle your stomach, and the ice will help the rest of you.

Or you could try ginger tea or ginger ale, and chicken soup. But not too much at a time because you'll lose it again otherwise.

Stay in bed as much as you can, and feel better!

You have a "bug". Listen to your body, stay home, rest, drink lots of cold liquids, take tylenol or ibuprofen for fever and aches and pains. If the sore throat continues to get worse, consider getting a strep test done at a clinic or urgent care. Run a humidifier in the bedroom where you sleep. Nothing will make it go away faster. It has to run it's course.

You could have an infection, try cough medicine, soothers etc. Go to the doctor. Tip: don't drink cold water when you have a sore throat! It might seem to soothe it but it actually makes it worse :) Have hot chocolate instead

I am a doctor also, and I think it is not worse. Maybe just a flu or tonsillitis. it doesn't need the bacterium culture. Take antibiotics if you want to get better soon. enough rest and speak less are important for you. If the throe throat is fierce, you can take some medicine.

Lots of sleep, rest, and fluids.

Also, try one of those throat numbing sprays. Chloroseptic. They have some type of numbing medication in them. It doesn't cure it, but it takes the pain away briefly.
