I have had neck and shoulder pain and have spent a fortune on massage and osteopathy. The pain is still there and i am thinking of going to see a chiropractor - but they are very expensive and not sure what the difference is between them and osteopath.
I really want to get it sorted as had really sharp pain today in my neck when doing body pump and dont want to give it up!!!

i just dont know what to do. go back to osteopath or go to chiropractor?

I have a nerve/pain situation in my neck/back/shoulder blade and it radiates down my arm. Gets worse when I spend all day at the computer.

Doctor said I have a compressed nerve in my neck, from bone spurs on two spinals discs with mild arthritis in the neck area. My muscles are all tight and bundled up making it worse. Slip/fall last year and two old car accidents didn't help matters. I type all day long at work which was just killing me. Hurts very bad all the time.

I went to a chiropractor last week. Best move I ever made. He put muscle stimulator patches on my back/neck and it sends electrical currents into the muscle to stimulate it. Then he "cracked" my neck.

Largest relief I have felt in years. I went again last night for another electrical shock and neck cracking. It's helping.

Most of the pain and situation is just a compilation of injuries and life style (I'm 45 yrs old).

Go see the chiro. My health plan gives me 20 visits/year at $10 co pay per visit. It's worth any money. I'm also adding accupuncture to my list of remedies.

First, when your family massaged your shoulders did it help or relieve the pain? Also why did you wait for years before seeking help. Pain is always a symptom of something wrong, and for you to let it go on for so long was asking for trouble. The only advice I can give you at this point is to first go to your doctor. Before anything like a chiropractor or even massage can be considered you must go through some testing like a CT scan and maybe aN MRI to be sure there isn't any pathology causing it. Then if everything comes back okay you can consider the other things. Have you ever tried a minor muscle relaxant like flexeril? Although this is usually used for lower back muscle pain it should work on any of the large muscle groups too. Try first getting into the doctor today and see if he/she can give you something to help with the pain until you can get the first testing done and out of the way. Maybe these will show the problem up. Good luck and God Bless

I had neck and shoulder pain and told my GP about it. She had some xrays done and told me I had a problem with 2 discs in my neck. I had an MRI done and there are 2 discs in my neck that are bulging into my spine causing great discomfort at times, mostly just an annoying pain all the time. I went to physical therapy and learned some exercises to help ease the muscles that were tightening from the stress of the pain from the discs. This helped me a lot. They want to do a spinal injection therapy which helps some people and does very little, if nothing for others. I would suggest getting an MRI done so you can see for sure what the problem is then you can make a better decision about treatment.

I wish I had this 2 years ago when I damaged my rotator cuff while showing off. This is very detailed and really gives you the techniques you need to sort out your own shoulder issues and a lot more info such as preventing further injuries. If you have a shoulder keeping you awake at night you'll know it's no laughing matter.

Sounds like a pinched nerve. A good chiropractor con help but it seems that once they get their hooks into you it costs a fortune.
Try an ice pack - for twenty minutes - and then heat for the same amount of time. Helps me. Doesn't get rid of the pain but certainly relieves it.
Also try sleeping with a neck pillow and a pillow on each side of your head to minimize (head) tilting. Helps me when it is really bad.

I have Neck and shoulder pain. Got an MRI. Diagnosis is Spinal Disk degeneration(stenosis) between C6 and C7, primarily. I went to Physical Medicine Rehab doctor(MD) yesterday and was referred to a spinal surgeon before she starts Physical therapy. She wants the surgeon to recommend appropriate PM&R treatment for my condition to get the maximum benefit and not for surgery. My GP has a chiropractor that shares his office and suggested not to go to chiro because of possible further damage
just my 2 cents.

I have never been to the Chiropractor, and I have heard conflicting stories. Some people go religiously. One thing that is the same for all stories, is that going to the Chiro is a temporary relief. That is why people have to keep going every 2 weeks, or every month. I suggest you go back to the doctor.

The root cause for the pain could be quite high pillow taken by you while sleeping. There is not much to worry about the treatment. Any good physio therapist will cure you within a fortnight.

It could be arthritis, fibro Malaysia(or Malagia), pinched nerve. Go ahead and try a chiro. or your doctor to see whats going on.
