I need to get a Japanese passport but is there any way I can do it online or do I physically need to go to the embassy in london to sort it out? At the moment I have a british passport but when I was in Japan in April I chose Japanese nationality/citizenship so need to get a Japanese Passport.

So I guess you renounced your British citizenship as it was required when you became of age? Try to get a Right of Abode sticker for your Japanese passport to ensure that you can stay in the UK. It is roughly similar to permanent residence but I believe you need your visa/sticker updated whenever you get a new passport.

I had a look around Japanese embassy website but I could not find any application forms to fill out (however this may only be available in the Japanese speaking section). Usually with passports is that while you may be able to fill in the form online, you have to download it and send it off along with a lot of original documents to prove who you are and that you have the right to a passport. I would find it highly unusual if you were able to fill out the forms and pay online for a passport. Most likely you could pick it up if you wanted to but you could also have it sent to you (which would be more common).

All sections of the Embassy, including the Consulate General, the Japan Information & Culture Centre (JICC), and Library, are located at the same address.

there should be a consulate office for you to call. I obtained my irish passport forms by leaving a name and mailing address after a prompt during a call to the consulate. the consulate's telephone number should be available online under the dept of foreign affairs for the country.

Passports must be personally claimed or delivered by a courier after payment of the required fees.
