What was Aurelius actually talking about when he made the following observation. He was obviously speaking metaphorically and not solely as an apiarist.

bees work in perfect harmony everyone has a job and is devoted to that job.The hive comes first.Everyone supports the well being of the hive.If a bee become stagnate it is eliminated.Same thing should be applied to society.

Think of our environment: if we destroy it, all living creatures will also be destroyed. This is true of any home in which creatures must work together, a beehive or an entire planet. If something harms the environment or the beehive, or one's country or any place where people must live and work it will also harm the people..

he's talking about his country,(protection)to be kept as theirs as long as they live.
