I'm looking to buy one but, not sure what brand to get. I want good quality, may even possibly use it for photography in the future, but I'm not trying to spend $300 bucks for it...
Any suggestions or sites I can go to?

Go with a subcompact digital camera with 7 megapixels, 2.5" LCD [238,000 pixels] and a regular viewfinder. Comes with a rechargeable lithium battery [which produces around 120 pictures via the LCD or 240 pictures via the viewfinder] and charger. Extra third-party lithium batteries sell for around $7.00. Stores 665 ulta-fine images on a 2-meg SD memory card and sells for $179.00 at samys.com. It's the Canon PowerShot SD1000 and they are selling very fast. Check out the 400+ rave reviews by very satisfied purchasers at amazon.com
Good luck!

Realistically, you really should try to get the most megapixels per dollar spent... this will give you the most flexibility AFTER the picture is taken for editing/adjustment/cropping/etc., as you can zoom in somewhat from the original shot without losing too much quality.
I've found that the "cutoff" in pricing a good camera vs. an expensive one seems to occur in the $150-$200 range, depending on brand. The technology that goes into these cameras is tried and true and can be made affordable to be mass produced, whereas the higher priced ones are using more state of the art technology, raising the price exponentially.
Honestly the best place I've found to compare TONS of cameras at a glance and get a reasonable price for them is dell.com. They are very well organized and have lots of information about each one.

Visit a real camera store (one that only sells cameras, not 10,001 other things and cameras) and tell the salesperson what you want to spend and how you plan to use the camera. Handle the different models as he/she explains the features and benefits of each. Then , BUY the camera from that salesperson. Since most salespeople in specialty stores are on commission its simply WRONG of you to use their time and then stiff them by buying elsewhere.
Some stores even offer an hour or so of instruction with your new camera. Try getting that over the Internet or at one of the discount stores. Buying from a real camera store also gives you a person to talk with face to face when you have questions or problems.
Once you have your new camera, and even after the instruction at the camera store, READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual for your camera.
Good luck, happy shopping, and Merry Christmas!

The Canon PowerShot A630
The Canon PowerShot A570 IS
Both cameras have aperture/shutter priority. Both take AA rechargeable batteries.
For a small camera consider the Sony CyberShot DSC-W80

honestly, for photography.. get a real photographers camera. you know, the ones with the big lens, that you can focus & such. although it's large, it's takes good pictures all the time. trust me, i have a camera that's only 6 megapixels, which may seem a lot, but if you really want to have good quality pictures for photography or whatever, get something around 8 megapixels atleast. i'm sure you can find some good camera that's 8 or higher, megapixels that's around the money you have saved up.
my first camera was olympus, brand sucks! try sony, or fujifilm.

For a good picture quality digital camera look through:
- Canon A630
- Fujifilm F40
For not bad:
- Canon SD850 (IXUS 950)
- Canon SX100
Canon SD1000
All of these models are under $300. Don't pay extra money for useless 12MP cameras as Canon SD950, G9, A650, Fuji F50 etc, because in this case you pay for marketing and noisy images.

I have been through a lot of digital cameras. I can say my favorite one with price, and quality was a Sanyo at walmart.http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5634183 There's the site for it. It's about $90 so not bad at all. Kodak Easyshares are pretty good too. But that Sanyo has been my favorite one out of all of them I've had. I spent pretty good money on my Sony Cybershot and it's not nearly as good as the Sanyo.

Suggestion: Canon A570 IS. It's about $155 from Amazon.com. I recommend this camera because it's 7mp, 4x zoom (a little more than the 3x you usually find), image stabilized and has face detection. 7mp is plenty for printing.
Sites you can go to: http://www.imaging-resource.com or http://www.dpreview.com for camera reviews.
For buying sites, I usually check http://www.pricegrabber.com and http://www.amazon.com Some of my favorite stores to buy cameras and camera gear inexpensively:
http://www.amazon.com
http://www.buydig.com
http://www.newegg.com
