I was delivering pizza's in a college Fraternity row that had a bad crime rate at the time. I got a call to deliver some pizza's there, one was a large order to a fraternity. I delivered the pizza's but as I was driving away, a car with two men inside started following me. I had another delivery in the area, and made several odd turns to head that direction, and the car followed me, which was odd because I was not following the regular traffic patterns for the area. Realizing this might be a hold-up attempt, while stopped at a Stop sign, I pulled an automatic pistol, held it up visible to the rear window and chambered a round where the two could see it.
After they made a sudden U-turn, I delivered my next pizza.

This story is not about me, but about someone I know and worked with. He is an active law enforcement officer, off-duty at the time, who was mugged at gunpoint in an urban area with a high crime rate. He shot the mugger fourteen times (an entire magazine). He then called his supervisor, his liability insurance company, and 911, then began performing first aid on the mugger. The state of New York and his employer both eventually found him not guilty of any crime, and he's still on the job today. Amazingly, the mugger survived.

While living near Ft Bragg N.C. my neighbor called, she said she thinks someone is trying to break into her apartment... at about that time, I heard the sounds of breaking glass in my kitchen window, I rose, took my shotgun down from the wall, loaded it and placed myself in the hallway so that the person could not pass me to get to my sons room or my wife. While my wife called 911, the large individual walked into the living room and headed toward the hallway... until he saw me standing at the end.
The criminal had an Epiphany and took an immediate deter back to the kitchen and out of the house.
The police caught him rather quickly.
In my mind the firearm did exactly as it was supposed to. It protected my home and family without harm. However providing any person regardless of size, that protection.
