She asks the boys father, what should we do? The father thinks a moment and says, well, I don't think spanking him would work.
lol What WOULD you do?

I'd sit down and discuss it with him.
I have a pretty good understanding of what S&M is, and what it entails.
So I'd make sure that my son understands the level of trust that's necessary in S&M relationships, and also make sure that he understands the concept of safe words/hand signals, and also that S&M is 100% consentual.
And then I'd tell him that if that's what he's into, there's nothing wrong with that. Lots of people employ S&M in the bedroom, even if it's only S&M lite.
It certainly doesn't mean there's anything wrong with him, even if he considers himself to be a sub.
And it's not a sin, either.

sounds like there would be too much "baggage-potential" to allow a reliably "helpful" communication.
the risk for damaging of the parent-child relationship would be fairly large.
If the son wants to pursue this interest, it would take place at such an intimate location in his psyche that .. well, "who am *I* to chart the direction?" ... this question has with it a whole set of value-judgements which transform the arena into one of ethics, respect of privacy, respect of choices, etc
I really don't know how to answer.
"mainstream" porn is tough enough
is the parent strong enough to bear the burden of knowledge?
Maybe S&M is ok for some people ... dunno
"good luck" if this is really the case.

Take a scalding hot oil bath and then dip myself in a vat of molten bee's wax, to start with!

LOL indeed.
I would suggest praying of course. It's useless, as we know, but it should keep the parents busy...

I would say you let him be. This is a harmless interest.
