Liquid smoke is a seasoning like Worcestrershire sauce or Steak sauce and can be found near these things at most grocery stores, usually right around the mustard. I have never used this in ham and don't know how to make a substitute.I have used it in steak, burgers, roast and imagine if you rubbed a ham with it, it would add a nice flavor ( if the ham is pre-smoked, the flavor is there already). I buy pre-smoked ham. I know that you can find ham base, which is similar to beef or chicken base (used to make broth) near the soups. Sorry I couldn't be more help Happy cooking!

You do not have to add liquid smoke to ham unless you just like that smoke flavor.
Liquid smoke comes in a glass bottle and is sold in any gro. store. It will be in the area with the steak sauce and things like that.

liquid smoke can be found in the grocer where the marinades, BBQ, ketchup, and mustard are found. I use it mainly for ribs, beef, or sauces. Not on a ham tho.

mix equal parts brown sugar, rice ,and tea leaves(just rip open tea bags if you have too;-)...about 1/3 cup of each in a small pan(loaf pan) place in oven...... cook your ham in a different pan in the oven...leave your tea in for about 45 minutes to get a good smoke...but then take out and finish cooking your ham as directed!!!Its the newest..cheapest way in kitchens!!!.....p.s....make sure you have your fan above your oven on:-)
