I'm completely open-minded on this question, and interested in all answers regardless of one's view of our relationship to the cosmos.
I'm talking about a horror which has been resurrected from the dungheap of Internet bad ideas to scourge us--and in particular ears--again.
Yes, I'm talking about audio ads. They're reappearing again in Yahoo! Answers.
It could very well be the work of Satan. I'm willing to buy that. But I'm open to alternative theories. I thought this stuff was dead and gone. But this really annoying Gap ad that shows up on open questions under the "Beauty and Style" section is putting the fear of God into me and I'm afraid the scourge will reach into other parts of Y!A.
What did we do to deserve this? How do we repent?
Also, do we rely on natural selection to kill off these ads, or do we need to pray for a plague of flies or frogs or boils on the Gap marketing department?

Amen, brother Pesemistic, in fact I'm actually using that combination myself, but I'd much rather wipe out the scourge at its source than have to perpetually beat it back at my own browser window.

P.S. I have nothing against Internet advertising in general. But audio web ads cross the line. It was tried, they annoyed everyone and drove traffic off sites and it died. No three days and a resurrection for this one. Like Lazarus by now it stinketh, but audio ads on web pages always did and always shall stinketh.
