Whether or not if the thing that you ask for happens or not Prayer is basically one way to communicate to a higher power. Jehovah has set a plan out for every ones life and he also gives us a freedom of choice. So why not pray to the one true God that can make you or destroy you? I believe that God does hear us when we pray and that Jesus takes the prayers to God and that God answers your prayer according to the way that he sees fit. Of course if you ask for something bad to happen to someone then I believe that in return something bad will happen to you. and it might be ten times worse. Some people are looking for ways to not believe in the One true God so let me ask you this are you a believer or not ?Pray for good things to happen and sit and watch for them to happen.

You are right when you say what you ask for was going to happen any way. God has everything planned out for our good. The thing is we have no way of knowing exactly what His plan in. His word tells us that praying to Him pleases him and somehow that affects Him. It doesn't change Him but it does matter to Him. So if it matters to God, then it matters to me. So that is why I pray and praise God when my prayers are answered always according to His perfect will

There are two core concepts:

One - God All-mighty has ordained everything and everything is happening with His will & command.

Two - God All-mighty has ordained everything and man is free to make his choice.

Both the school-of-thought suggests that God is All-knowing, however, the second argument is more powerful as it also reflects on God All-mighty being All-just & is much close to the nature.

In the fist approach, it’s all hard coded and everything is on its course including Humans. However, in the second approach, we’re free to make decisions pertaining ourselves.

Prayer is one form of meditation & in approach 2, God might make a change in what is ordained for an individual.

CHESSY: Not me at least ask God for his signs as to me they are already too evident, only if one can behold them.

I think prayer is a form of positive thinking. And when you think positively, positive things happen.

I'll bet everyone here has at one time, asked God for a sign...just to prove he exists. I know I did, when I was a kid and believed in God.

No one I know ever got a sign.

In fact, if the truth be told, my friends and family who do believe in god, have pretty miserable lives. It seems to me the more you believe in God, the more 'challenging' your life is.

For example, one relative is a good Catholic. Does things for the church, donates time and money. Her whole family is like that. And you know, her husband cheats on her and it makes her so depressed that she has tried to kill herself.

Another religious friend of mine, a young guy, watched in horror as his young wife was killed on a motorcyle when a deer (one of his God's creatures) ran out in front of the motorcycle she was on. Last month his sister was killed in Iraq.

The answers/excuses believers give for these things happening make sense.....to them. And I can see how and why they velieve what they are saying is true.

It's just that I am not buying it.

Maybe every once in a while its a coincedence that something I have prayed for has came true that was going to happen anyway, but I have noticed that since I have been back in church, things started going my way. Thats real talk. I pray every night, he cant answer everyones prayers, but being in church and listening to the word of god in his house, he knows, and things will go to your advantage. Dont just go for that reason though. Selfish prayer and selfish reasons will get no results.

Nobody is listening to prays. They are to comfort the person saying them but only if they believe someone is listening. If they are answered in some specific way that is either a coincidence or it was already going to happen anyway. Prays are however good to help people who need to believe they work

god never has nor will he ever answer prayers because he is not real.
Those who claim that he does are fooling themselves.

It's like taking aspirin for a headache and then claiming that it went away because you prayed to god to make it go away.

Edit:
if prayers are so "powerful" as most claim then perhaps they can explain why god does not answer the prayers of amputees.

Edit2:
Ah! two thumbs down, gee maybe I hit a nerve with someone who can not accept the truth.

Well, Maybe god does not answer our prayers. in some karmic world we solve our own problems and there is no such thing as God.
but does it hurt that we like to believe in someone else to help us out.
More like reassure us that we can rely on someone else and not have all the answers. There may be no God but i know there have been times when I feel secure in just believing that there is a God. Its a personal choice at the end of the day! No God for you maybe but you cannot ask others to give up their beliefs!

That's kind of a low common denominator skeptic's POV. I am not sure God ever answers my prayers like I was putting in a requisition form. That's where faith comes in; you keep believing, if you have faith, even when he doesn't SEEM to be answering.
You pray for your own spirtual health, a talk with God, even more than for the impatient skeptic's goal of getting things on your wish list. Understand?
