Fortunately or unfortunately word God does not exist in Sanatana Dharma. Ancient scriptures and vedas use the word Bhram and Ishwar, which are little complex to explain. Ada (That) is also used at many places. Bhagwan is used for people, who fulfill set of criterion.
Bhram is pure consciousness and it's closeness (like a magnet) with matter (prakriti) makes changes in matter from subtle to gross. So the relation of consciousness, with matter at various levels have been given different names, which have been discussed below -
HIRNAYAGARBHA is the owner of "closeness Pure Consciousness" (like a magnet) with "Collective Subtle Matter" (Prakriti, ever changing and inter). It's sound of Ukara in Om. It's aspect of Bhram, which sustains.
Bhram (Pure Consciousness) unfolds itself as Ishwar (Closeness of Pure Consciousness plus Collective Cause Matter), and Ishwar as Hirnayagarbha (Closeness of Pure Consciousness plus Collective Subtle Matter), and Hirnayagarbha as Virat (Closeness of Pure Consciousness plus Collective Gross Matter). Virat is gross manifestation - what we see, feel and touch.

According to Hinduism, Hiranyagarbha, meaning the golden womb, is the source of the creation of the universe. In Vedic scriptures, it is the origin and creation of both the cosmos and the universe. Hymns state that Hiranyagarbha floated around in water in the emptiness and the darkness of the non-existence for about a year, and then broke into two halves which formed the Swarga and the Prithvi, and most likely other parts of the universe. Like many other texts within Hindu scripture, this account is interpreted to serve as an analogy to a greater truth. It is believed that Brahma was born from the Hiranyagarbha.
Hiranyagarbha also means golden centered...
which refers to surya bhagavan or the sun god.

According to the Shakta system the original God as a female deity, hiranyagarbha, the golden womb. Garbha means 'womb'. Some people call it the golden egg, but the literal translation is the golden womb. The first person to come forth from the hiranyagarbha was Narayana. Narayana is life.
Hiranyagarbha has no name, form or quality.
The traditional founder of Yoga Darshana is usually said to be Hiranyagarbha. It is nowhere said to be Patanjali. The Mahabharata (Shanti Parva 349.65), the great ancient text in which the Bhagavad Gita of Sri Krishna occurs, states: “Kapila, the teacher of Samkhya, is said to be the supreme Rishi. Hiranyagarbha is the original knower of Yoga. There is no one else more ancient.”
Elsewhere in the Mahabharata (Shanti Parva 342.95-96), Krishna states, identifying himself with Hiranyagarbha.
The Vedas declare that God is present in all beings (Eswara sarvabhoothanaam), God pervades the entire cosmos (Isavaasyam idam jagat ). Love originates from the hiranya. The three principles of reaction, resonance, and reflection originated from hiranyagarbha. Unable to recognise his true identity, man wastes his life in the pursuit of temporary, fleeting, transient, and ephemeral pleasures.
According to Manu, Hiranyagarbha was Brahma, the first male, formed by the indiscernible eternal First Cause in a golden egg resplendent as the sun. "Having continued a year in the egg, Brahma divided it into two parts by his mere thought, and with these two shells he formed the heavens and the earth; and in the middle he placed the sky, the eight regions, and the eternal abode of the waters."

Dear Friend,
What a question you put?
Who is Hiranya garbha? O.K.
Just bear with me and read patiently.I may make mistakes and you are able to correct them.
Golden Womb , all said ...I am not touching that .
Imagine you are sleeping .In your sleep you have a beautiful dream where in you see a kingdom. The kong with a vasy country and , beautiful wives and you will see all kis kingdom spanning thousands of miles. There you see excellent gardens , beautiful sun with all birds etc, beautiful gardens.Pundits doing yagnams and agni homams atc.
You see people dying in wars, the king winning and expanding his kingdom. He was ruling like that with a very good law and order. So you see all the five elements in your dream .you even eat and enjoy comforts.
Suddenly you wake up for some one made a sound or for some other reason.
Ohhh. All your happiness is gone when you realise that IT WAS A DREAM.
Just imagine , just imagine please, that the king in the dream appears before you , and asks '' Where is my kingdom? What happened to my people and where are my wives and army?etc''
What is your answer?
You say '' my dear friend it was all MITYA ( illusion). All that happened was my dream.''
'' How can that be?so vast kingdom, forests, hills, gardens , wives, people...all were I saw and you too saw....where are they now?'' King in the dream asks again.
You reply'' You see. during my sleep, a small movent in my brain , in a tiny part created all these things and again all disappeared into that speck of brain.''
''How is it possible that your small brain in the head could hold so vast a kingdom and all?'' The king of dream continues.
You try to say '' just like a tide in ocean took shape from a tiny part in ocean and again diappeared into it , it happene. It as just an illusion to you.It really did not exist.''
The five elements in the dream are not connected in any way to the five elements you see after you wake up.
But all that that was created (dream) in the mind of you in sleep was your minds crreation. So you are the creator of all those things (elements and all materials etc.)You are the HIRANYA GARBHA to the king in dream.
Similarly some times there will be a dream in the dream. So imagine the king has similar dream and similar experience as explained .For the king in the dream of the King of your fream , that first king is Hiranya Garbha.
Similarly in wake up state we see all these elements, gardens, hills, hurricanes, vulcanoes etc etc. These are the mental creation of one called HIRANYA GARBHA.
He does not creat it.It is Maaya and Mitya.
But one needs a good understanding and deep thinking and introspection to see the truth.
There is still more to say about Hiranya Garbha. But I stop hear.It may be boring to some.
I hope you think there is some thing in what I said.
Thank you for the question.

In Valmiki`s Raamaayan Hiranyagarbh is the other name for Minaka .Minaka is a mountain with wings who flew away from land with the help of Vayudeva. When Indra threw his Vajrayudh to clip the wings of all mountains only Hiranyagarbha went under the sea and saved his wings. Vayudev`s son Hanuman was going above in the sky to Lanka.Ocean God enjoined Minaka to give some place and time for rest of Hanuman. Hiranyagarbh out of gratitude offered help to Hanuman. Hanuman did not take help as He was in a hurry to see to Seetha Matha

In the middle of great people around here;
I want to answer this question in a short explanation.
Sir,
Hirnyagharbha is Prarabrahman
Vishnu named this to Brahmadev.
After entering the body of Brahmadev, Vishnu surprised to look at millions of `golden` pinda mountains (probably universes) and called him HIRANYAGARBHA

Hiranyagarba is the Samasti Bhavam of the almighty responsible for the Sookshma Sharira. It is also responsible for the Dream State / Svapna Avastha.
Its Vyasti Bhavam is Taijasa or Virat.
In chin mudra it represents the ring finger.
-----
While we enchant aumkara (pranava matra) we over come the this state of our mind. In Aum kara (pranava Mantra) it represents the ukara. Especailly the letter "u" from the letters "aum".
