Fermat's Last Theorem?

Why did it take so long for someone to solve Fermat's thing...he didn't even use a computer is what I heard..is it that hard? Weren't there attempts made to crack it with a Cray..?

No-one knows for sure that Fermat did solve his own theorem. He hinted that he had, but I don't believe he could have.
The solution, when it came, took blinding leaps of logic and imagination. It was never going to be solved by throwing computing power at it.
I know this question was posted in Jokes & Riddles, but there's the real, not funny answer for you anyway.
