Does anyone here have a son or daughter around 14 years old? If so, could they really ever do anything sexually at that age? Because everyone i have asked questions about my son and his girlfriend, have brought up that they could do sexual things together. It would be great to have some other parents opinions on this. Thanks!

YES, Kids are having sex younger and younger theses days. You have to know what's going on. I don't know how you do it, I would never allow my 14 year old a boy friend. Or they can only be around each other supervised.

Now a day, I hear of 11 and 12 year olds having sex, you can't be to careful.

The are certainly capable of having a sexual relationship at that age, however, being capable of understanding the consequences that go with that relationship is another thing. You wont be able to stop them, but you can help them by educating them about pregnancies and std and all the other things that come with a sexual relationship. Talk to your son. He may not be receptive at first, but just play it cool, and stay calm. Ask if they are doing anything or if they are wanting to do anything and go from there. You might try talking with the girls parents about having a meeting with all parties involved and discussing it that way. Do you have any reason to believe they may be participating in sexual activities? I understand the cause for concern, as a parent thats the scariest thing to worry about!!! But put it out there to them, im sure you would rather protect them from the bad stuff now, than have to deal with a possible unwanted pregnancy by turning a blind eye.

I know im not a parent.....and Im sorry, but I was 14 not too long ago.....and unfortunately they CAN be doing sexual things....most of my friends began being sexual around that age which is pretty sad, but it is true.... I think that it all depends on how you brought up your son and i think that you should talk to him just in case they do end up doing something I think it would be better off that he is safe....but as a young person I say that it is POSSIBLE.....but I think that you should just talk to him and not worry so much about it until he is 16

Yes, 14 year olds can and often are sexually active! It's past time to talk with your son about sexual responsibility.

I'll put it this way. I am not a mother of a fourteen year old but I was 14 not to long ago. I lost my virginity at 13 it was the thing to do. I would never tell my mom for fear of how she would act.You should ask they probably wont tell you the truth. But if you do talk to them be ready to take a stand and offer birth control. I dont care how much you tell kids not to do something they will do it anyway. Good luck

I'm a parent of a 14 y/o girl and 16 y/o boy.

You don't need opinions on this--you need facts, and the fact is that YES, 14 year olds are perfectly capable of having sex and often do in this day and age. Is this too young? Of course, but it's the fact.

I've had the "I don't approve of it but use a rubber if you're not gonna listen to me" talk with my kids and again and again. Please do the same. Don't kid yourself.

Uh, there was a school district in the news not long ago getting ready to offer the pill to girls 11-13 because of the increase in 12-13yo girls having babies in that area. Yes, they really could be sexually active.

dont mean to scare ya but I lost my virginity at 14...I'm a mum of an 8 year old boy and I am also a youth worker and have worked with many many kids from all sorts of backgrounds upbringings etc.....and yes it is most definitely possible your son and his girlfriend could be having sex.....you wont be able to stop them but you can educate them on correct and safe sex. If he is too shy and doesnt want to talk to you about sex then you need to find someone he will talk to. It is important they both practice safe sex not only for their health but to avoid any unexpected baby plans.

oh yes....and they can do them much younger too!!! keeping the lines of communication open is your best offense. be open and honest with them any time they have a question and also initiate conversations about it. it can become quite embarrassing sometimes....but if you don't answer their questions, they will get answers from their friends...who are not any more knowledgeable about it then they are. at this age i would and did promote the kids always having a condom in their wallet or purse.....that's not saying that it was ok for them to have sex but it did teach them to be responsible if something happened. i also put my daughter on the pill at 13 when she started her period. i started talking openly with my kids about sex and answering their questions honestly when they were about 12. you can't stop them from having sex....could our parents stop us??? but you can give them the knowledge to protect themselves from disease and pregnancy. and through honesty about your own past (not necessarily in detail) you can also help them to make good decisions when situations arise.
