Sometimes it's latent racism, other times it's ignorance that all pictures are from someones imagination as we have no descriptions of Jesus in the four Gospels.
Generally people depict Jesus as they've seen him represented in other works of art or sometimes he and the holy family are depicted as looking like the people in the surrounding culture
i.e. Our Lady Of Guadalupe looks South American.
Jesus probably looked like any Jewish male in fist century Palestine, a Middle Easterner and today would probably be profiled and detained at the airport.
P.S. There are and were Jews from African decent, then and now!

He isn't always. You just happen to be exposed to the Jesus images in white culture. Many cultures outside of the industrialized world will portray Jesus and Mary as someone resembling their own heritage. This is because Christ came for everyone, not just the Jews in the area of Jerusalem, not just for rich white folk or the Africans and Moors who didn't get there in time to add their genes to the locale. These localized images of Jesus just make him more naturally approachable. If you got to Heaven and Christ appeared as some purplish squid alien or some other form of intelligent life elsewhere in the Universe that also needed His help you would probably freak and be like, "Hey who are you? JESUS? Seriously? What the..." So yeah it could be worse. At least he is not a noodle monster. Ramen, ramen I say to you...

Jesus and Mary were Jewish.
Does it really matter exactly what shade of brown they were?
Of course different nations and cultures might depict Him in a way that would make Him more familiar or easier to relate to and approach, and as not to seem foreign to certain races. Point is he was a man (when on earth), so all men can relate to Him, no matter what race. And he died and was raised for all.

..... Jesus would have had the same skin color as any other person from that geographical area. Not white or black, but olive - pretty much the same appearance as people in the Meditarranean/Middle East area today. He is depicted in art however will make him appeal the most. Primarity white in the west, black in Africa. The are both wrong.

u might not like what i'm about 2 say,but anyway....when Europe was being recognized as the center of the world, and as their main aim then was controllin other countries (age of colonization) therefore they had 2 show in every possible way their superiority to their submitters...they did it via several ways (culture superiority) (racial superiority)(industrial superiority) it had 2 b that way that others look up 2 them,or else they might had rebelled or started livin accordin 2 their own traditions n tried 2 develop, which might jeopardize the European powers, the thing remainin was this,Europeans would b recognized as followers of Jesus, who lived in the middle east, who is not European,n they wanted 2 distort such belief, hence they started drawin Jesus as white, blonde, with blue eyes (u may check on the drawings of Jesus in such era as a proof)....but not coz white is pure!!!! coz sure there r black ppl who r much purer n more pious

During that time when the modern artist depicted Jesus in portraits, blacks were considered as slaves and colored people are considered 2nd class citizens.
So painting Jesus as a colored man in a society where white people are the aristocrats would cause scorn and ridicule. In effect, they patterned Jesus after what is considered a good looking white man during that time.

Were you there? And why do you care? And do any of the archeologists and historians share your views, based on artifacts from the time?
"White," incidentally, comes in a variety of flavors. I have never ever seen Jesus portrayed looking Scotch Irish (which I am). But I can handle that!

issues are changing. increasingly extra at the instant new photographs show him as center-eastern in visual allure. A Christian pal even confirmed me a picture the place no longer in basic terms became into the race "undefined" (very cleverly, would have been something) however the gender became into androgynous too.
