It pretty much means all you have to do is point and click and the camera pretty much makes all the decisions about exposure. More often than not you'll end up with a descent picture but will run into trouble when conditions aren't opitmal for that, ie, low lighting, etc.

I may be wrong here but you just point and press the button to take a picture, ie its ready to use straight out of the box.

Point & shoot to me means, point the camera at your subject and shoot. Everything done on auto.
