I'm 18, I got in trouble. My dad grounds me and makes me start to pay rent. I don't mind that much. It gives me an extra incentive to move my bum *** out right? Anyway... He wants me to go on a family vacation later this month. I can't go because I need to pay the rent. But then he says he would pay for me to go. I'm really confused. Is he doing the right thing? I mean he wants me to pay rent and then he's gonna pay some of the rent for me if I go on the trip.... Is this confusing anybody else? I'm so confused. So my question is what should I do? Should I go on the trip or should I stay and work?

I think he is paying for you to go because he wants you to go so he can spend quality family time. Just go on the vacation it would make your father happy.

Your father views this trip as important family time. Even after you move out and are living on your own their will be times when your family wants to include you on trips, or will help you when needed if not abused. I think you should tell your dad that you feel responsible for the rent but if this family vacation is important to him you will go along. However dont go on this vacation if taking time off of work will have a negative impact on your job. With families communication after you have thought over an issue is the key to survival as you grow and have close relationships with a significant other you will find communication after thought is what will make it work. Good luck.

Sounds like your dad is trying to find ballance. He wants you to become a responsible, working man who can stand on your own feet. He does not want to drive you away. He is willing to pay for vacation because he wants you to be part of the family, an insider.
Whether you should stay and work depends a lot on the kind of job you have. Will you lose it if you go on vacation?

What would your dad think if you said "Thank you for your kind offer to pay for vacation but I can not, at this time, afford a vacation. I'm trying to build a future. If I can succeed I would love to join you next year."

Do you pay rent once a month? If so, save for it and go on the family vacation.

ur dad is trying to trick u. well hes testing u to see how responsible u really are. if u fall for the "family vacation" bit, and quit ur job so u can go, then u will look like a loser to him. if u say "no im staying so i can work and pay the rent" then u will finally be a man, in ur daddy's eyes.

Maybe he wants to spend time with the whole family and that is why he volunteered to pay your rent just so you can go with them.
