So what's the question? Do I think it is funny? Not particularly. I took Latin in college, and know about how the roots of words often change over time to be used in opposite meanings. So it is really the case that demonstration and demon have a common root, but the longer word is generally the newer. You could say demonstration came from demon with some conviction, because demonstration often involves the process of reductio ad absurdum. That is, you play the "devil's advocate" and start with the opposite of what you believe is true, then prove that position leads to absurdity, which effectively proves it's opposite, or what you first intended to prove. QED

Yes Demon means Knowledge. But a lot of interesting word came about like this. Satan is a Dragon. Go ahead ask any one. But if you look at the description they take that from its a hydra.

are you trying to imply that demonstrating against something you disagree with is somehow diabolical? the root of the word demon, means adversary, and when you demonstrate you do so because you are adverse to it. hence the similarity
