I think it is a stage they go through. My 4 yr old always says
" mom, can i tell you something?" I always say yes and she ALWAYS says " I love you."
just recently she has taken to asking me if im all right, which i usually am. I think sometimes its just a way to converse since there vocab is limited . You a lucky mommy to have a baby who loves you. and a lucky baby to have a momma who loves him back .

There is no defining time when toddlers go from a few word sentences to full sentence. As their brain matures they will be able to express in more words what they are thinking and not just what they can say right now. Right now he is going on what he knows and is comfortable saying as well as what he hears. As he learns more words and incorporates their meaning into his vocabulary he will start to try them out using different sentences. Just be patient, his brain is absorbing so much new information on a daily basis, it takes awhile to decifer which terms and meanings he should keep and which he shouldn't.

because he loves you... at three he probably doesn't realize that he says it so much, but enjoy it while he does say it so often, because once he gets older, you'll probably be surprised when you hear those three little words... i really don't think he's worried, it's probably more like it's the only way he knows how to express himself is by saying it.... its something all babies hear ALL THE TIME when they are young, and he's probably just caught onto it, and thinks that because it was said so much to him, it's the right thing for him to do to say it all the time.

There could be several reasons why...
a) he could be looking for reassurance that you love him...
b) he may have just understood what it means and so is 'practicing' the words/meanings
c) he may just be a very affectionate child.....

I suggest you just tell him you love him too, and give him a big hug......dont worry about it.....just ensure you always tell him back that you love him too.

Either he's just very affectionate or he might be worried about you. Are you stressed? Don't underestimate 3 year olds on being in tune with your emotions.

My mom tells me I totally freaked her out when I was 4 by trying to comfort her when she was upset about rather adult issues. Nedless to say, she though she never exposed me to that stuff.

unlike you, children dont have hang ups wondering why some one does something...
he loves you more than he can express, and I hope that you tell him that you love him, as often as you can...
its in the not saying it that there is a problem...children give and express their love freely and should not be made feel that its not okay...your eyes could be telling him that even if you think your not...so get over your self and just love him and let him know...

I think your son is just being affectionate. My daughter is almost four and she tells me she loves me all the time. I don't think there is any reason other than to tell me that she loves me.

He's fine. Kids often lock on to something and say it over and over again.
