Americans can no longer take an oath to serve their country why? Because certain people have had it removed from schools and some other such places because it offends them and they don't want their kids saying it. They don't give their oath of allegiance to country or people but yet still call themselves american. Have they no shame?

i guess not.everyone wants to be politically correct and it is damaging our country.everyone believes because they are different they need everything custom done for them.it is making this nation lose its identity.it is making us fall apart.look at our nation now and compare it to 50 years ago.politicians want everything fair to everyone to get a vote.it sickens me.this nation was not tailor made for everyone.i don't know any other country that will change for its people.if "they" don't like something they should just not say it.but it should be keep like it is.it is tradition.why should tradition be altered for a small percent?if they don't like they shouldn't come here.period.that is the American way and if they don't like the American way then they cant become citizens.

You can take an oath to serve your country whenever you want. Just because kids aren't forced to stand and recite the pledge in unison doesn't mean everyone is prohibited from saying the pledge. Come on!

The pledge of allegiance is not only to the flag of the United States of America,, but it is also "to the Country, for which it stands: ONE Nation,... indivisible; with Liberty and Justice for all" The phrase "under GOD" was added in the 1950's.

When politicians take an Oath of Allegiance they are swearing that they intend "to uphold the Constitution of the United States" and to defend it from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

In other words, those who try to undermine the Constitution must be considered traitors to the United States.

Legal Immigrants are required to make those pledges of allegiance to their new homeland. Illegal aliens don't care to do so, don't follow our laws, and feel no compulsion to obey or be protective of our laws and culture. With no allegiance or oath to be loyal, we harbor traitors when we give in to the demands of illegal aliens. We must uphold our laws and only permit legal entry of legal and lawful, or law abiding immigrants who intend to take the pledge and oath seriously.

I've never heard of the oath of allegience. I've heard of the pledge of allegience. But that's to the flag, not to the country. Maybe it is to the country too, but it feels like it's added as an afterthought.

Just because it has been a tradition for a long time doesn't mean it's right. How would you like it if the only safe place to avoid a catastrophic hurricane was in Mexico, and they turned all Americans away. It's tradition, can't let illegals come through.....better luck next time. Some things have to change with the times.

And with the declining approval ratings of the Iraq war, I wouldn't want my child pledging himself to a war I didn't support.

There is a fine line between being a patriot and being ignorant.

Nationality is not defined by reciting the "Oath" or pledge. It is defined by your citizenship. There is also no such requirement to force kids to recite it at assembly and rightfully so. If you want to say the pledge every morning before going to work, by all mean do it. But don't try to impose your ideology onto other people. Personally I have no problem with the Pledge or its reference to "Under God."

How would you like to be hauled to the roof of you workplace to sing the Star Spangled Banner every morning if it is required by law that you have to do so?

Many of you younger posters do not know the good old United States, Before the Civil Rights act, All people in the U.S. are not all Christians, There are many other religions represented, So as per the division of Church and state , dictates that non- Christian children can not be force to Say under God, When theirs maybe ,Hindu, Mormon, Buddha, Allah or The one God etc., It is not about Patriotism, Its about the Fundamental Christian Right Wing agenda.

It is disgusting! And so is no prayer in school. If you are not one who chooses to be an American then don't cime here. Our nation was founded on solid Christian principles and we should be allowed to continue them. Those who don't care to participate can be silent. We came here to avoid tyranny from the Catholic church and other cultural things we could not abide by and this is where we are? God needs to be included in all we do lest He forget we are under his laws as well. When we deny the Patriots and Christians the ability to express themselves, we deny the very foundation of our nation in favor of someone else's desires!

I understand what you are saying. It is a danger to the unity of America. Don't worry when all these nut balls vote in a "dumb"acrat in the next election there won't be an America left. So don't worry, be happy. Hire another illegal alien border criminal to clean your toilet or yard or raise your children. That will speed up the demise greatly. GOOD LUCK.
