i gotta admit. i feel a little bit ripped off. not because of what the previews promised but because of what the catholic church claimed about the movie the golden compass. where exactly was all the pro-atheism, anti-catholic content i heard so much about in the news? about the only correlation between the council in the movie and the catholic church i found was the councils efforts to prevent free thought, and the catholic churches efforts to prevent people from watching this movie. of course there would have been no similarity drawn had the catholic church not boycotted the movie to begin with. this must be what is meant by the term self-fulfilling prophecies. who else saw the movie? what did you think of it?

tut, that's exactly what i'm saying. i never read the books either. and anyone who has read the books already probably know all about the anti-catholicism, so telling them to stay away from it won't make any difference. for those who haven't read the books they go in watching a movie that they are none the wiser is anti-catholic. so why even cause any controversy?

I watched it Tuesday night. It was pretty good, but not great. The special effects were a little underwhelming, but it had a talented cast and a plot I actually cared about. The problem is, you can tell this film was based on a book; they tried to stuff a lot of supporting characters into a movie that couldn't quite hold them all, and some of them seemed under-written.

As for the controversy? You're right. The movie offered very little anti-religious anything. I've never read the books, so I don't know how faithful the adaptation was, but if anyone saw anti-Catholicism in this movie, they must have been looking awfully hard.

They dislike the idea of the Magisterum being linked to the catholic church. Which was more obvious in the books.

Also the "god" worshipped by the magisterum was the first angel, a liar and a fraud calling himself god for personal um... gratification.

Something like that.

Apart from that, the movie was overblown.

To summarise, they dislike a mirror being held up to their church and faith.

i think initially the interest develop into foisted upon me (my very religious kin and up-bringing took care of that) yet presently, the greater problematical questions i arise against (case in point, from the greater considerate atheists on the communicate board) the greater intrigued i'm as to the place my religious seek will lead me. if i ought to pass decrease back in time, i could be sorely tempted to ditch the literature analyze and replace them with theology. it quite is all ok doing casual analyze (it quite is purely no longer an identical). nevertheless, i locate no different communicate/discourse as appealing by fact the only coping with no rely if it quite is conceivable to reconcile technology/reason with a non secular inclination. thank you for asking :)

I honestly don't think that a movie is more important than everything else on earth.
