Can a SvR08 for PS2 play on the 80gb PS3?

I bought Svr 08 for PS2 last month but now i got a PS3 since my parents finally caved in. I was wondering if the SvR 08 of PS2 can be played on the 80gb PS3 (i wud check but im afraid it might mess up the disc).

i dont wanna return 08 and buy 08 for the PS3 for 10 bucks more

I went to us.playstation.com and I checked the backward compatibility status for Smackdown vs Raw 2008 with the 80GB PS3 and it wasn't listed as a compatible game yet. Smackdown vs Raw 2007 is compatible with it though.

If you put the disc into the PS3 it's not going to mess up the game or the console. If I were you, I would try to put the disk in anyways just to see if it works.

Sony will most likely add future updates that will allow SvR08 and other newer PS2 games to be played as well.
