awwww poor thing....
I'm not sure what he has. but in case of an emergency i would try to put vaseline on his whole body...i tell you this because vaseline is very effective when it comes to moisturizing your skin. I don't know how well it would work. but maybe it could stop the cracking of the skin.
Also....wrap it up with gauze all over (even if he feels uncomfortable....its for his own good) that will hopefully make him stop the scratching!
give your kitty lots of water and try to find out what it could be. wether its food, litter, fleas, weather....try to observe him.
i really hope it gets better. Best of luck to both of you! and please let me know if it works.

take him to the vet pronto
Sounds like a bad case of psoriasis, but I don't know if cats can get this, so it might be a wierd infection. Try to wrap some gauze around him for now and take him to the vet. If you can't control the bleeding try calling an emergency 24 hr vet number, try everything in the yellow pages. Best of luck, I'll pray for you both.

There are several things that could cause such a reaction. First and foremost TAKE HIM TO THE VET!!!! It could be an allergic reaction to his food, he might have gotten into something, have you changed the brand of cat litter you use? Does he have fleas? Any number of things could be causing it. It could be as simple as he just has really dry skin and if that's the case he needs to be bathed in an oatmeal soap and again perhaps change his diet!! I want to repeat the importance of getting him to the vet, the above mentioned are just wild guesses and are things your vet will probably ask, so they are more of a heads up. Good luck to you and your feline friend.

Get some Neosporin and put on the skin that's broken through to prevent an infection. Get an oil (like sweet almond oil) at the drug store and put it on the skin that is NOT broken out, to soften the skin. Make sure the cat drinks water and eats.

GET SOME BAG BALM on him. It will heal and the cat will stop scratching. OTHERWISE VET and have that $$$ ready.
Seriously...BAG BALM is great. People use it also for DRY cracked skin.
WAS made for cows udders(boobs).
