I don't believe there is Bad Music, just Bad Lyrics. The actual music, the sound, is beautiful in any way that it's put together.
There is an 'old saying' that my grandma used to tell me that led me in the right direction,,,,and that was - "you are what you live". If you want to live your life in the Lord, then you have to have Him above all things.
Anything that you do in your life that comes before the Lord, means you aren't putting Him first. And if you did learn to put Him first then your questions will be answered. I think you're already answering them here, you just haven't committed to Him in all ways yet.
Yes, that does take time; but you are working your way towards Him even now.....A relationship with the Lord takes a Lifetime of work, knowledge, and wisdom,,,,,,but mostly Love.
To change your life, you need to change your lifestyle. Sometimes temptation is so overwhelming that it's really difficult to avoid it. That's why Christians will surround themselves with other Christians and they support each other thru avoiding those temptations. This could be something that would help you into not being so tempted by the music you listen too, or the movies you watch.

The question is why do you listen to that music? I am being serious...motivation matters a lot. If you just enjoy that genre of music, maybe not so much harm is done. As for comparing what you do with what you would let a six year old do...give that one up. My wife and I engage in marital activities but I would not allow my son to do the same with one of the neighborhood girls. Never be fooled, some things are OK for adults but not for children. Children are not adults trapped in small bodies. Never forget that.

If you are really serious.
Before you start have every Christian friend you have praying for you. Also have them ask how you are doing with it. So that when you slip you have to tell everyone.
1) break or burn all of your CDs.
2) Delete all downloads and MP3s.
3) Give your radio, computer and any other music making device to a trusted friend or family member who will only give it back when they are with you to help you make the right choices.
4) Choose the kind of music you think would be uplifting (classical, hymns, etc)
5) Listen to it for a period of time everyday under the supervision of the accountability partner in 3.
6) Develop hobbies to keep you busy while you withdraw so you will be less tempted to cheat (sports, community service, school activities, part time job, anything that keeps you away from media)
7) As time goes on your body, mind and soul will develope the taste for the good music and slowly you will lose your taste for the bad.

Anything can hold you back from the Lord if you allow it. There are a lot of "harmless" things that if we allow it, they become idols for us. You must make a conscientious decision not to listen to that kind of music or watching those movies. when the temptation overcomes you, pray for strength from God. To avoid the situation, change your radio stations to whatever style of music you want to listen to and leave it there. Make some accountability partners and have them hold you accountable for your actions. (Look at AA support groups for an example)
"And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God." (Colossians 1:10)

When your are filled with the holy spirit it will help keep you under conviction so you will not want to keep listening to the wrong kinds of music. If you are not filled with the holy spirit, all you have to do is ask the Lord to fill you with the holy spirit. When you are filled with the holy spirit, aside from just being saved, it gives you power that you don't have on your own to be able to do things you wouldn't ordanarily be able to do. And yes, if you get rid of those things that tempt you, then you will less likey be tempted. Life has it's challenges, it is not always easy,I hope that this helps. Hang in there.

Well. If you want to stop listening to this music, first, ask God to help you...He will. Then...when ever you stop doing something...replace it with something else so that you will not go back to it. For example, stop listening to the "bad" music and start listening to music you know will help you grow closer to God. Music can definitely hold you back from God...it can be an idol in your life. If God is speaking to to you about changing the music you listen to, don't ignore Him. Ask Him for help and boldly make the changes in your life to please Him.

How can music hold you back from god? It's just an aural manifestation of someone's self-expression. It's another form of art. There's absolutely nothing wrong with ANY form of it, even if they do use the F word. Which is only a bad word because somebody once upon a time said it was.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Don't listen to what people will say. they are just plain stupid. I listen to metal and I'm just fine(besides the fact that I'm Wiccan). But no one here has the power to make you do what they want you to do, so it's your choice.
P.S: Music doesn't effect in what you beleive in.
Happy Holidays
