Take the suspension and don't complain. If that is all it took to get rid of him, it was worth it. Now this kid knows that your not afraid of him. Tell him you don't care if you spend your life in detention, because you are gonna take him down. He will never come near you again.

Sure. You got into a fight at school. No, it isn't fair .. but the lesson here is that the World isn't fair, either.
I had a criminal defense attorney tell me more than once that "it's the one who hits back that gets in trouble." So I guess we're not supposed to defend ourselves? I still have issues with that. I also went to Anger Management class. Thanks, Judge :-| All that did was make me angry.
Back in my own school days I had the bright idea of confronting someone who was picking on me by being loud just BEFORE I hit him. I'd holler out " You're not getting away with THAT!", and then I'd swing. All that did was make sure that I got in trouble. I don't think that was a good plan any more.
The thing about fighting back is that the guys who pick on you KNOW you'll fight back. That's what they want. They also want to pick a fight they think they can win. If they LOSE, then the game changes in your favor.
The trick is to be SMARTER than them. Choose your time, method, and place. Also, if you take the high road by not showing them they are getting to you (which is hard as hell to do when they really DO get to you), that's supposed to help. At least that's what the "experts" say.
I find it just pisses them off more, creating personal enemies that will follow you forever.
Better to establish the rules of engagement. Let them know upfront that they aren't worth you losing out on a chance to go to college, and that you'll handle your business with them outside school (not at the edge of the parking lot ~ that's just stupid. Teachers can SEE, duh!) some other day. If THEY wanna be ijits, well, that's on them, rite?
Also, when you tell them this, try to stand in camera range if there is one. Helps to back up your claim that they instigated something if it was caught on tape, right?
The bottom line is " THINK ABOUT IT" Look at the angles, and make the best move for you. If getting the cops, or the dean of students, or your folks, or the *** kid from the block to help you out, then do what it takes.
But never forget that YOU are the one who is going to get what youy want in life, and THEY are always just a bully without a clue.
Hope this helps. Goood Luck with it.

Terribly sorry about your situation. Life is not fair.
You were suspended because the right thing to do was to let your teacher/principal know about the bully. By beating someone up (even to defend yourself) is against the rule.
In the future, report the bully. Get some of your friends to back you---defend you.
Talk to the principal to set the record straight. However, I'm afraid the suspension will still be in place.

If you punched him without being punched first, you were in the wrong. You should be suspended. Let it be a lesson to you to only hit in self-defense if necessary.

No, it isn't fair.
It's his fault. He started it.
xD!
Anyways, if you already explained everything, clearly.
Then there's nothing you can do.
It's better not to show that you're mad, pissed, angry, etc. because at every angle of the situation, whoever ticks off, loses.
If you want revenge, do it discreetly.
Goodluck, though.
