No one has mentioned Maymont Park! Maymont is a wonderful park that has several places for receptions, such as the Italian Gardens, the Japanese Gardens, and the Dooley Mansion. They will let you cater your own function.

Many hotels offer areas for receptions. However, most provide their own catering service so you would not be able to bring your own food. The Omni allows outside caterers to come in. I am not too sure about the Marriott and the Sheraton. The Jefferson Hotel is awesome, but I am sure that you have to go through their caterers.

I know that there are a lot of "service organizaton" halls available to rent that would allow you to provide your own food. I can't think of any really good ones off of the top of my head, but I'm also a bit worried of what I could suggest for a wedding. (I have found what I think is good and what my fiancee thinks is good for wedding preperations is completely different!) Check out the VFW posts, the FOP, Moose Lodge, and anything else you can think of.

Some of the volunteer rescue sqads and ambulance services that still have buildings in which they own in full can rent out space. There is a fire company in the east end of Mechanicsville that rents out it's old fire house off of Mechanicsville Turnpike. The Henrico County Volunteer Rescue Squad located just off of the airport used to rent out it's second floor for events.

Good luck!
