or religious teachings, practices, etc. some Christians take it as a personal afront? Aren't they secure enough in their beliefs to be able to welcome debate?

Guitarrman: you prove my point. Why do you assume that I'm an atheist? And my question is not using the insulting or derogatory language that you describle!

Onyx1: has a good point. I really do have some reservations about how the
Bible is translated into teachings today and look for answers through discussion with rational people without insult on both sides of the question. It's hard to find.....

Well not every Christian does, but I see why you ask. Most Christians believe the Bible is perfect, but even though they do, they don't have all the answers. Part of being human.

Maybe its because that some atheists question in a way that is insulting to the person that they want an answer from. First of all some of the questions are asked in a way that also puts down the person for being a Christian.

Here is an example: Are Christians so brain dead that they actually believe in a virgin birth? If you thing it is, then you really dont want to debate. You just want to mud sling.

Is that a fair debatable question? That deserves a peaceful answer?Stop flattering yourselves. If you really want a good debate, go to a Christian forum where you can debate. Christian fellowship forum, is a good one. Also raptureready.com is good. They like people like you. But I'm sure you wont stay there long.

Well, I don't know about other places, but the Christians on Y!A came on here to discuss their beliefs, and even debate once in a while. A debate has two sides though, if you think we are taking it as a personal affront just because we give our side of the debate, then you are sort of missing the point of a debate.

Jesus loves you.

It's all about how you go about it, it's one thing to have questions and seek answers , as appose to ridicule, name calling, insults and trying to sneak in insults posed as innocent questions. Now do you know why?

Debate away. I do not mind it unless it gets silly. If I don't know, I'll admit it. No one knows everything about God's Word ... but I know enough to hold my own with most.

Exactly. Now, when someone questions atheists, and if the question has the least glimmer of intelligent thinking, that's when things get interesting. Most atheists love a good debate.

No they are not secure, that's why they have to shove it down everyones throats. Cause they know that any intelligent human being that uses reasoning and logic can figure out its a bunch of BS. That's why their main weapon is fear.

Because it is fine to question the legitimacy of other religions, but Christianity is off limits...for whatever reason...
