On here, in life, or both. How do you put up with it. I can't stand a rude person, but I don't believe in hurting people (not including self-defense). So what do you do?

When one really cross the lines, so i let him/her know.
Clear as possible.

I consider a rude person arrogant, thus i do not care if they get hurt by my words. For, they already heart me.

So, it's eye for an eye kinda thing!

I've always found that making them frustrated is the best way to get even. When they write something rude, just respond, "Ha, good one. You're stupid". They will then say how immature you are and waste all of their energy writing about how your come back is weak. Just don't let it get to you and respond in kind with another, "YOU'RE STUPID!".

This works even better in person because your first time saying it you laugh loud and obnoxious and brief. "HA HA! you're stupid," and remain calm and don't say anything other than "yeah, but you're still stupid". This gets people so worked up. Kids do it all the time and it really works with adults too. Deep down there is that picked on kid inside all of us that hates to hear we are stupid.

If its someone on the street or in here, someone you don't know, you simply form your opinion and move on with your life.Simply put, ignore them.
If its a person you see often at work or a relative and is a repeat offender, then calmly explain that we don't talk like this in this environment and you wish they watch their tone..(language, expression, whatever you find offensive and rude)

You usually need to rise above most of their background noise. These are people who aren't mature and dont care about other people's feelings. You owe it to yourself to not allow it to get to you. If it does, then they have won. (Kind of a sad way to live on their part). As far as the ones on YA, most of them are cowards who wouldn't be that way to anyone in public. This way, they can hide behind their computer screens and portray their inner lust to be an as*#^ho*e and not suffer the consequences.

If it's a stranger, I ignore them. Otherwise, depending on the situation, I say one of the following:

"I disagree"

"That's not very funny"

"What do you mean by that?"

"Perhaps I haven't made myself clear!"

"That's enough!"

"How dare you?"
