Different people explain it differently. Some Christians believe the story in Genesis to allegorical, and not literal, however I do not hold that view.
The Bible mentions great beasts that do not match the descriptions of any known animal.
From Job 40
15Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
16Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
17He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
18His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
19He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
20Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
22The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
23Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
24He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
From Job 41
1Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?
2Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
3Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?
4Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
5Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
6Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?
7Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
8Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
9Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
10None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?
11Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.
12I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
13Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?
14Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.
15His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
16One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
17They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
18By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
19Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.
20Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.
21His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
22In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
23The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
24His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.
25When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
26The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.
27He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
28The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
29Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
30Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.
31He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
32He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.
33Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
34He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.

If you research, you will also discover that there is a lot of evidence to support the theory of a young Earth, and even to support the idea that humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time. I know that is radically different than what you've been taught, I know. It takes courage to even consider another explanation.
I recommend the book, "Evidence for Creation", also I recommend you find out about an organization called Answers in Genesis. You'll be really surprised by what you find out.

I don't believe in evolution. I don't believe in chance. I believe God created the heavens and the earth in literally 6 days as the Bible KJV proclaims. I believe the Bible is the inspired Word of the Living God. I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and God Himself who came to earth in the flesh to save you and me.
Dinosaurs are in the Book of Job. Job 40:17 Read about the tail that is like a cedar. Many plant eating dinosaurs had huge tails. I believe man and dinosaurs lived together. Footprints of a dinosaur and a man walking side by side were found.
Death did not happen until Adam and Eve brought it into the world, yet man said dinosaurs died off millions and billions of years ago. The wages of sin is death per God's Word that is accurate far beyond anything man has to say. That is the problem. Those millions and billions of years that no person can call a fact, because no person lived back then. Scientist say that the universe is that old, but God made it within 6 days so it can't be that old. God's word is never wrong. The prophets were so accurate that it amazes us even today of their accuracy.

The problem is that the atheists and evolutionists try to separate dinosaurs from the rest of all the other animals that walked on the face of the earth.
There have actually been found fossilized dinosaur tracks with human footprints walking right through them showing that dinosaurs and humans (not pre-humans) lived at the same time.
Prior to the flood in Noah's time, the earth was surrounded by a protective shroud of ice. This ice blocked much of the dangerous UV radiation so that everything had a much longer life span. (Where do you think all that extra water came from?)
After the flood, however, the life expectency of all living things was greatly shortened.
There are some animals that continue getting bigger as long as they live, such as lizards, turtles, certain fish, etc.
If these animals were allowed to live 500 years, they would grow to the same size their ancestors used to be, but they no longer live that long.
What we call dinosaurs were overgrown lizards and other animals. Some may have even become extinct, like the dodo bird.
I trust that this helps clarify this question.

Hi. I can't answer that for you. The dinosaurs were older than what the bible dates back to. You know B.C. Before Christ.
All I can tell you is read John 3:3. You can either reject or accept Christ as your Savior. This is why you have Free Will. The Lord made you to fellowship with him. But he allows that to be your choice and your choice only.
Answer this though, Just look around you, Can this really just be an "accident"? I think not.

They live on this earth just like you and I. Many think they went extinct after the flood because of fountains of the deep and earthquakes ruining there supply of food. There is no evidence of mountains before the flood and there was no rain. Only morning dew.
Here's a little more information on bible dinosaurs.
Job 40:15
"Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox.
Isaiah 27:1
[ Deliverance of Israel ] In that day, the LORD will punish with his sword, his fierce, great and powerful sword, Leviathan the gliding serpent, Leviathan the coiling serpent; he will slay the monster of the sea.

the argument is that the WORD for dinosaur is not in the bible
so BOTH sides use that to babble alot of nonsense the main
thing being suggested is that if its not describe in the bible
the bible must be false...
then we get to the carbon dating thing which no one will agree
on...
and so forth and so on...
i find no problem beliving that dinosaurs were created in the first
six days....and since we don't know how long adam and eve
were in the garden...the old lizards could have been romping around for quite awhile before adam and eve were evicted....

i have an explanation for ya, dinosaurs could be bodies from the fallen angels that God cast down out of heaven,, have you read of the descriptions of some of the angles in heaven? even some that are there now , according to the bible looks like what we would call a dinosaur,, even a seven headed dragon that is going to be loosed in the tribulation time, ,,,just a little to think on,,, read the bible for your self about angles and see some of the descriptions and then judge for your self

If you take a course on the Old Testament these days, the first few chapters of Genesis are studied along with the poetical books (Psalms, Proverbs, Job, etc.). That is where the material belongs. It was never intended to convey literal history, and Christians did not start reading it as history until just a few centuries ago.

Basically that Gods time is on a whole 'nother plane than ours.
I believe that we're actually currently on Day Six of creation, and Day Seven, when God will rest, will come at the end of the world.
So it makes perfect sense that in the time from Day Five(animals) to Day Six(humans), dinosaurs came and went.
And really, it doesn't. Atheists(and other Christians ;-) ) like to use it as a reason why Christians that believe God created the world in six human, twenty-four hour days are nuts.

Well it is like this. People of the Old Testament, really old, needed a variety of pets, just like we have dogs and cats. The Flintstones had Dino, and these folks had a nice blend of dinosaurs. Of course feeding was a problem for some of the more larger species mind you, but way back in the day, there was a even heat around the world and lots of good things to eat everywhere.

i like to think of myself as a cross bearing evolutionist. my concept of creation(and thus eventual evolution) has nothing to do with the bible, or anything of the sort. i don't trust that book at all. too many political opinions have influenced what goes in and out of it. i think of creation as the initial spark of life in the first archaic single celled organism. not Adam, but amoeba. (or an appropriately labeled archaic organism) and evolution took its stance from there. quite simply many choose to refute scientific evidence like fossils, and the like.i do believe in Jesus Christ, however, i am a sensible believer.
