My mother, over the years, has taken many things from me. You might say that she is an Indian giver. She even gave my bedroom suit away to my cousin once that she gave me as a hand me down I might add. Over a year or 2 ago I bought her everything you need to learn Spanish. 8 CDs were included. She had only listened to the first one and there is not a scratch on it. All 3 books look brand new. I offered to give it all to a woman I've known for a long time, who loves Spanish, because her husband speaks it well as a second language. When I told her my plans she hid everything. And will not compromise. Am I in the wrong here?

Added due to the 2nd answer-- She admits that its been a long time since she used them, "Because she has a busy life." Her excuse, "I might use them latter in life."

Maybe your mom does use it, you just don't know. You aren't necessarily WRONG, but you gave it to your mom, so it isn't your stuff to give away. You need your mom's permission first, but if she won't give it to you, there's nothing you can do.
You could try and compromise, even though you said she wouldn't. Just try and tell her that if she isn't going to use it, that she should give it to somebody that actually wants/needs it. If she still won't give it away, she obviously treasures it or something and there's nothing you can do.
Just look on the bright side: Maybe she only treasures it because you gave it to her! ;)

It would be totally wrong.... you gave them to her, they're now HER property to dispose of as she chooses. Also if you're a minor living at home, what she's given away is technically her property - like that handme down bedroom suite. Its a parental perogative whether you like it or not.
The furniture in the house we grew up in was never ours... even though our mom put things in our rooms, aside from our clothes, the furnishings were bought and paid for by her, thus it being her property.

You gave it to your mother; it's hers to use or not. Yes, she gives away your things - that's wrong. But two wrongs don't make a right.

Your mom is a needy pack-rat... and she takes it to abuse. Real poverty mentality... aggravated by the need to perform for more distant relations by giving them things that she had given to you.
If you insist on giving her anything in the future, just do a gift card.
If you question whether she is actually using anything, just go ahead and borrow it and leave it in plain sight on your dresser to see if she even notices it.

well, not really, but maube your mom might find that its insulting for you take back your gift to her for another woman. some people are just attach to getting things and never put it to use. its the thought of having them that makes them attract to it. i think that you should just let your mom be. its only a couple of books, maybe she might use them later on.

Yes it's wrong to give her things away.
It doesn't matter that she gave your things away.
Don't learn from her fine example.........
You should be better than that..........
If she leaves you an inheritance you can give away anything you want.......

Don't try to give her things away. You need to stop buying her anything.
