Well, when the whole world watches Britney Spears on a music awards show and says she's FAT, that's a problem! In no way was she fat that night! A bad dancer? Yes, but fat? No way...
We have far too high of standards for what we consider a healthy weight.

Because there are appearance requirements for women these days. The ideals and values of society are constantly changing. The media is very influential now and seems to put a huuuuuuge amount of pressure on people to look good. People seem to focus a lot more now on trying to attain the ideal physically attractive qualities that are displayed through the media. Women aspire to be like celebrities these days, more often than not. They learn 'slim is beautiful' and so desperately try to be like this. When you're slim you gain admiration for it which acts as the reinforcement to lose or maintain a slim size.
It's sad, really. It varies from culture to culture. This occurs more often in the west. The west is messed up.
Look at psychological studies of this and you'll find a lot of it comes down to what I mentioned. Society never used to be like this. Think of how being fat was beautiful many years ago. Then it moved on to women like Marilyn Monroe who was an average weight. And now as society has moved on to celebrties like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie who are shown everywhere so now you get girls trying to look like that. It's all the media. That's why now commercials - atleast in the UK - are being changed so bigger women appear on them. Bit too late though.

Television has put so much emphasis on women looking like twigs and men howling at the moon over it until women are a little afraid of a pound or two. Shampoo, toothpaste, wine, cars, beer, house cleaners, food, air freshners you name it, small busty women are there to sell you. Do you see plump or fluffy, sexy women selling it? We are programmed to think that's what all men like.
Then on the other side of that coin, self esteem has taken a beating from critical, cruel men and women. Ever been around fluffy people that weren't made fun off? Even children in school can be cruel to plump kids. Thin is in, stout is out. What a mind warping quote.

Girls tend to be insecure. They get this idea pushed into their brains by society and the media and their peers that being fat or even curvy is horrible, and that the numbers on the scale directly correlate with their value as people.
They feel like if they aren't a certain weight, then they aren't attractive, and if they aren't attractive, people won't care about/like/notice them.
It's different for every girl, and not every girl is concerned with her weight, but in general, I think this is how it is.

each and every women individuals and woman has a various physique form. the quantity of muscle groups is likewise a attention in weight. i think of that the media abuses their ability and continuously sends a message to all women individuals that their bodies are imperfect and that we ought to continually no longer be satisfied with how we glance or who we are. it is an somewhat extensive mistake because it reasons many youthful women individuals to have ingesting problems and physique photograph subjects. right this is a question which you need to to think of roughly. Why is it that adult men at the instant are not judged interior the comparable hyper severe way that girls individuals are? Why is the media kinder to the adult men than they are to the ladies individuals? some years back the rustic of Spain refused to permit any fashions to artwork in the event that they have been underweight as they felt, and rightly so, that their youthful women individuals have been being given the message that they weren't bodily captivating except they have been underweight and malnourished. In Ethiopia many women folk individuals would kill to have some weigh on them as they are ravenous to dying as are their infants. each and every person has a various physique form, bone shape and somewhat of weighing on a scale it must be fit to ask your physician no rely if or no longer you're on the excellent weight somewhat of evaluating to photographs and records of different women individuals who're interior the clicking.

from a girls perspective it's like we feel that the whole world is out to judge us, every imperfection, every pimple, every extra pound that we gain, lowers our self esteem and confidence in ourselves because of our constant need to for people just to see ourselves for who we truly are. Girls feel (and sorry guys if this is not how you see, but this is how we feel), that guys are always going to go for the girl with the curves and skinnier waist, it always has been the case and always will be in our opinion. When we get that one comment "whoa, you look like you've gain an extra few pounds"---it can lower our self esteem by a mile.

Me personally am very concerned about my weight. You get treeted differently when you're skinnier. guys say that a good personality counts for somethings but i've only met a few guys who are really like that. Everywhere there are girls that are skinny walking around in nice close. Depression jst makes people eat more. the main reason why girls are concerned about their weight is because of what people/ guys in particular will think about them.

Because society puts pressure on us!
heres my poem on the issue
....
She's feeling the pressure
Of a judgmental society
With their cold eyes and stuck up noses
They pass her by as if she doesn't exist
If you don't fit their perfect mold
You're not worth their time
She's sick of feeling worthless
She knows they whisper behind her back
With the strain on her to confrom
She goes to the extreme
With the whisper of the media in her ears
She throws up her food
With the stares of her class mates
She starves herself
So now she's skinny but not happy
And everyone still wants more
But who is the perfect fit?
Their expectations are too high

Because the media drills it into our heads that we have to be so skinny. It's in commercials, magazines, etc. But not all girls are worried about their weight. I'm not. : )

I agree with the "boys judge girls apperance"
I've never found a boy that doesn't judge a girls apperance,
well girls too- we all judge eachother's looks without even
knowing it. But not all girls have low self esteem. I use to
be then I just became happy with who I am- because I don't
change for anyone.
