You mean REAL "Black Powder".....Black Powder Or Pyrodex Pellets as a "substitute"). Black Powder comes in FG, FFG, FFFG granulations. It is available from most any Sporting Goods stores or Gun Shops that sell Black Powder Firearms and supplies. Many Bass Pro Shops,Cabelas, ***** Sporting Goods, etc.

I would suggest you call the local Gun Shops in your area, and look up local sources near where you live. You didn't mention where you live, but you can also look on the Internet. It is usually sold in 1lb cans. You must be 18 in most states to purchase it and you will be required to show a picture I.D. as proof of age and residency.....

NOTE* Not every Gun Shop carries Black Powder/Pyrodex because of the requirements needed for safe storage. Most Mall Sporting Goods will not carry it for this reason.....Good Luck..

I agree that this smokeless stuff is just a passing fad, but modern usage has caused people to refer to real original sulfur/charcoal/saltpeter gunpowder as blackpowder for the last 100 years or so. When folks refer to "gunpowder" these days, they are not talking about FFg, FFFg, or Fg powders, but these newfangled smokeless nitro powders.

If you can't find a local dealer who handles the real deal smoky stuff, check with Midway, and google Elephant Powder and Swiss Powder, you can order direct from the distributor.

Try www.powderinc.com. They are out of Kentucky or Tennessee as I recall. You have to buy 5 pounds minimum but it can be in any grade or mixed grades. It is not cheap and you will have forms to fill out and have someone present to sign for it when it arrives via carrier.Last time I bought any, it was about 85 bucks for 5 pounds. Even if you shoot alot that will last a long time. I use 2F in my .54 rifle and get 70 shots per pound of powder. Thats alot of shooting in 5 pounds.

I'd suggest you find someone willing to split the load with you. It is getting almost impossible to get powder( black powder) from anywhere and the shipping is very high. The forms you fill out will be sent on to BATF just so you are aware.

Do you want GUNPOWDER or do you want Black powder the two are totally different.

Gunpowder is a nitrocellulose bases propellant used in modern cartridge firing rifles pistols and shotguns.

Black powder which is Charcoal Sulfur and Potassium Nitrate so not even the same thing.

Gun powder burns at given rates. Black powder burns so fast that it is considered an explosive by our lovely friends at the BATFE.

Why are you wanting black powder? There are plenty of substitutes on the market that are cleaner burning and provide more power for the same charge weight?

Pyrodex
777
American Pioneer Powder
and many more.

Ask for it as 'Black Powder - FFFg`.
'Gunpowder` will be commonly understood as smokeless powder, and they'll ask what type.

At a sporting goods (hunting) store. You can buy numerous grades of black, black powder substitute or smokeless powders.

It all depends on what you are shooting or reloading.

Real gunpowder......... didn't know there was fake gunpowder.

Well, is it for a black powder pistol/rifle or modern gun?

A gun shop that sells reloading equipment should have both.

I get the impression that you have no business with any such explosive material.

Don't be surprised if you get a visit from the ATF.
