Yes I can understand. I live near a noisy road. The best way to meditate, is to choose a time when it is quieter, like when the little child has gone to bed. Then use ear plugs. You can still hear music if you play it, but all the other noise is blocked out.The other way to meditate or 'clear' the mind is to use a Mandala or object to focus on with your eyes open. I used to use a picture of a dog I owned.Focussing like this will bring a result. It matters not how long you hold the focus, for meditation is hard at first.Remember have a 'oneness' in your room. Burn incense as it has a lovely aroma.Soft music, or a relaxation tape etc.Don't try too hard. Good Luck and Happy Christmas.

Either you have to find a way to "tune" out the noise, or you have to find a more quiet place to meditate (at least as you are learning).
Eventually, you will be able to meditate even in a noisy home, but at the beginning you need to find a more peaceful place to develop your skills.

Nope, don't tune it out. Because the moment you do is when something serious will happen and you'll end up hating yourself for a long time. Some places just serve as a more efficient spot to do things. I'd say go to a park or somewhere you know that's quiet and serene.

The first answer sounds good, but if you need more quiet at first, could you go out and sit in the car for a few minutes? Or meditate when your little one is taking a nap?

Meditation is definitely difficult. Yes, you're right that you need a quiet place in order for it to be successful. In case you cannot control the noise in your house, you can go to a quiet place. The church is a good place for meditation. However, if you're not comfortable in it, you can meditate when everyone's fast asleep.

try making a space in your closet in your bedroom and make sure that everyone in the house is aware that when you are in there that you are not to be disturbed. But remember-no incense in the closet. Eventually you'll be able to tune everything out wherever you are. Meditation is great so don't be ashamed to tell your housemates what you are doing in the closet, they might just respect you for it.

Well what takes you away from it all? Is it a place... the beach the rainforest try getting some music or sounds like it. If its music then play your favorite song on repeat and focus on the thing that takes you away. Soon you'll be able to go there on just visualizing or remembering those sounds

Isn't part of meditating the pure consentration on your inner self? So go to your room, close and lock the door, and meditate.Remember Mind over matter.

Wait until your child is asleep or send them next door to Nanny's. Then make your spouse turn the tv off and do something quite (like nap, go for a walk, get online) or wait until he/she has gone to work.
Be sure you tell your spouse how important meditation is to you. My husband is glad to accomodate, although he's not into it himself.

Yes, I have this problem too sometimes. The bedroom is good. But sometimes if the dogs are barking and so on, I use earplugs. They seem to help with the inner focus, even when it is pretty quiet.
