Assuming that free will is an illusion (which I believe to be true), when a woman decides to have an abortion, what causes her to do so?

There are as many reasons as there are different types of women.

Poverty, violence, so many reasons.

Not anti Choice at all.

I think that most women who have abortions actually considder it very seriously and then make a decision based on thier ability to care for the child.

Reading many of the pro-life people's questions and answers, it seems as if they are under the impression that women just wake up and decide to have an abortion, like it doesn't mean anything.

Thats just not the case. The women I know who did have abortions, did it after considering their lives with a baby.

Unfortunately the Abortion issue usually boils down to religious peoples attempt to insert morals into the world.

They believe that the accessibility of abortion creates a promiscuous nature in many women. Its ridiculous, but you can see it in the way they state that there wouldn't be an abundance of unwanted children. They typically state that fornication and unprotected sex would decrease, which is the real intent for many of them.

Assuming free will is an illusion, the causes would belong to a higher order.

But this doesn't really matter because in any case we are assuming it's an illusion, so the woman would think it was a decision she made on her own, and she can blame her decision to whatever she deems best.

Free will is probably an illusion, yes. That doesn't mean that we can avoid making choices, nor does it mean that any choice must be easy to make.

I don't know what makes anyone choose anything. All I know is that sometimes we have to choose between two things which are both good, such as having a baby or getting a college degree, or having a baby and having the money to pay the bills. No matter which you choose, there's a price to be paid. That's just the way things are.

Causation is an illusion. You answer is as simple as this: Why did the universe create us? No answer, it just happens. If everything just happens in succession and we start labeling everything with words like fear and emotion, then we've arrived at a cause for having an abortion, and that's wrong because everything just happens.

I can not assume free will to be an illusion. I believe that we each has a CHOICE.. "choose ye this day whom ye shall serve" lol..

I think that if you choose to abort your child then that choice is on your shoulders.

The thing that causes her to choose that decision's is her very own so called rational thoughts--maybe she does not want the responsibility.. maybe she does not like babies. for what every reason the child becomes termed "unwanted" and then she has made her own choice to dispose of her unwanted baby.

so what causes her to do so? what ever thought that comes to her mind. the thoughts bring about an emotion(fear, anger, hate) that causes her to react. and so then she decides her childs fate..

Every set of circumstances is unique, no doubt. I only encourage parents of a fertilized egg to discuss the options with each other, whenever possible.

I'm neither anti-choice, nor an atheist, but the pro-choicers often perceive me as the former, and the believers as the latter, so I get to answer your question.

i would guess a feeling of absolute desperation. why else would that even be considered. i don't think that anyone who has not been in that particular situation could say why that decision is made. in the words of the great George Carlin, pro life is anti woman.

for self. She is murdering a baby over hard to handle circumstances or just because she doesn't want it. And also they say it gives it a better life...and live with the guilt later after realizing that she ruined that childs chance to excell in life. She is not willing to take responsibility for her actions...

I'm not sure why you specify atheists in your question when more christians have abortions. Perhaps you should have invited everyone to respond.

I assume that she reasons somehow, that sonograms are lies, perpetuated by the medical establishments for the purpose of monetary gain and proceed with the removal of a useless mass of cells know as,fetus....Who in their right mind, would knowingly murder a living human being, especially after having carried it in her own womb?

I am a bit sensitive on this subject...(((ZILLA)))
