I think that's why male masturbation was called a sin. Though as they used to think the female didn't contribute anything but nutrition and the sperm contained the homunculus I guess females could do whatever they wanted.
Of course if you want to continue on that logic, celibacy would be a sin too.
For the people who claim every fertilized egg ends up as a viable baby, please check second link. Estimates for spontaneous abortions range from 15% (clinically recognized pregnancies) to over 50%.and even more in which the mother doesn't even realize she was pregnant.

With all sincerity, this is quite a contentious question. It is not a question of a loving parent, nor that of a logical person. A sperm alone cannot produce life, neither can a womans egg. It's irrefutable that it takes the two to meet together to make life. If a woman miscarries, it is not intentional and out of her control. God would never hold someone accountable for nature, rather it be miscarriage or ovulation. I think masturbation might be classified as raunchy or immoral, depending on our view, but it not murder. Honestly, how many men do you know have ever masturbated with the purpose of killing a child (which is what you're saying this is).
A sperm does not have a beating heart, nor an egg. A fetus does. Unborn babies have heartbeat, circulatory systems, feel pain and emotion. By your argument, if abortion isn't murder, than killing a severely retarded person wouldn't be murder, their though is limited, and they don't pay taxes (as don't many Americans and people throughout the world).
Actually, by your definition, it would not be murder to kill me, as I don't pay taxes (I'm a homemaker), I don't attend school currently, a Roman Catholic would never baptize me (more like, I'd never allow it, I disagree with Catholicism), I will never be circumcised, lol, and I'll not be laid out in an expensive coffin.
Honestly, how many people in third would countries would fit this description; poor, unschooled, non-Christian/Catholic, and never properly buries (especially not in an expensive coffin for that much). I'd wager that a shockingly large amount of people would fit this description, would they not but "eligible" to be murdered?
What, is there an age limit on murder? If it is murder to kill a newborn infant (nine mos. or possibly less, they are viable from even five and six months now), but it is not murder if you "dispose of it", just a few months before? That's absurd, did you hear about he baby that survived after being born at 20 weeks, would you abort a baby at this age? It sounds outrageous to me. A baby is a baby from the moment of conception, no if an or buts about it, and abortion is murder, and is only more horrendous the older a fetus gets.

Well, scientifically speaking, eggs and sperm are not alive until they meet each other, and since there are no eggs involved in masturbation, and no sperm involved in menstruation, there is no live there. When the two join together, there is life, and abortion kills off this life.
Abortion is murder because it destroys life.
But masturbation and menstruation have no life involved, and therefore is not murder.
You have an interesting train of logic, though.

I see your point, and frankly, while im not an intellectual... your point is quite un-intellectual.
A sperm in of itself is not a life. A sperm if left alone will never become a life.
An ovum in and of itself is not a life. An ovum if left alone will never become a life.
A conceptus is a life... and if left alone will develop into a life.
If you are going to take an intellectual approach to religion, because you are so much smarter than God that we should be worshipping you, you may want to make sure that your point makes sense.

so now a human being is determined by weather they pay taxes, go to school, or are laid in a casket.... wow. the next time a new born baby who has never stepped foot in school is burned to ashes in an accident I'll know he wasn't human. BTW... masturbation is wrong. It's a sin. The only reason why it isn't murder is because it has not become a human life until it germinates a human egg. God designed the menstral cycle to protect life, not destroy it. Keep in mind that the menstral cycle, according to the Bible, is a time of uncleanness and a result of sin. Will someone tell me, if not at conception, when a human becomes a human?

This is similar to the 'pro-choicers' argument about eggs.
An ovum or sperm are cells with 1/2 of the genetic material.
Only when they join to become the product of conception,
are they identifiable as a unique new human life-form.
Only then are they fertile & capable of multiplying.

From this pro-life theist's perspective, I don't see how masturbation and menstruation can be considered murder. With both, there is no conception, so a life has not yet been formed.

First of all, could you please clarify what a conceptus is? I've never heard of that term.
But, if it's not a fertilized egg, we don't consider it life, nor do we consider sperm life. They contribute toward the creation of life.
I realize where you are going with this, but the last I knew, no scientist will consider sperm or an unfertilized egg "life"

when the egg is fertilized it is a person. your misinformed and have no idea what your talking about. sperm is not a child or a form of one an egg is not yet a child or a form of one. Together they create life and destruction of that life is murder. God created mestruation when he made women not abortion.
