it would take an act of God for me to believe in him. Like him showing up in front of me.

I am constantly expanding my mind about God. The deeper I go the more I know that I do not know. The more I realize I do not know the deeper I go.
The nature of infinity is that there is always more to know, so the unknown is infinite, while the known is finite. The more I see the deeper I go, the deeper I go the more I see. There is no end to what can be seen.
Whatever concept you hold to be absolute and firm as it concerns God is the thing that keeps you from realizing more. When you are satisfied that you know absolutely, then you no longer are open to the infinite nature of things. That is when death begins to move towards you.
What is offensive to atheist is how different religious bodies hold their perceptions of God to be absolute to the point of being violent in the face of other culture or perspective. It then is easy to understand how someone may reject the concepts that men have of God that they use to justify such things is the wholesale persecution of others. The atheist rightly knows that this eruption of persecution is not compatible with the general concept of a loving God. Yet the organized bodies surrounding their respective Holy Text are divisive in nature and do not show the love of God toward other culture or religions. It is easy to see how people may reject the way some "religious" bodies present their concept of God. They may worship him in words of love for their fellow man and yet with deed they condemn others that do not look as they do, dress as they do, believe as they do, worship as they do, read the exact same "Holy Text" that they do or use the same words as they do to describe God.
In closing my mind is constantly changing, in a broader sense, as it relates to God. The absolute truth is I am not the holder of the absolute truth and I have never met one that is. Exception being that the truth is in everything around me. Sometimes my ego blocks the truth, sometimes my capacity does not allow for me to contain it but the truth is in everything.
So is love.
Blessings and peace to you,
All in all,
B

I can see your reasoning, would, seem logical to you, but how can some one truly be logical about some thing or someone they know nothing about? How is it possible to aply logic to something you cannot fathom for lack of experience and/or understanding just like the statements so often made by people about the Bible being tales or stories and yet these people in most cases may not even have opened this book to look at how logical and accurate it really is! How would any of them or even anybody at all like to be judged, without the person judging them knowing anything about them just by deciding on the personal opinion of the one doing the judging? But you aluded to this already in your own statement these things do indeed obstruct logic, what is logic in a person who has no idea about the person or thing that they are making a judgement about? It is not truly possible for humans who see only face value.

I don't know of the Rev. Tutu reference you made, however, God is not homophobic. According to the Bible he is against the act of same sex intimacy but, that is not a fear of homosexuality. I suspect your Tutu reference is too out of context to mean much.
Now...what would it take to change my mind about "the whole God thing" (whatever that acutally means).
Well, if God is not the loving, forgiving, compassionate God that Jesus brought to the world, then I would have a problem with that. However, you don't seem to understand faith. Faith tells me that your proposition is without any merit and that the only purpose to it would me to try and shake those who's faith is not secure.
How vile of you!

From a non-religious perspective, this is an impossible question to answer. My mind could not be altered because it is built in to human DNA. Those professing atheism have found a new god and religion. When you strip away all detail, you find simple humans holding on to "truths" to keep the uncomfortable feeling of ambiguity at bay.
Trouble is, science does nothing to recognize the existence of human spirit and avoids the question of "why are we here?" by relegating it to the accident file.
So, it must be a synthesis of God and science. In changing my mind about God I would be denying my science.

I have enormous respect for Bishop Tutu. And I think he's right on. If your image of God doesn't match up with the ultimate ideals of Love, then maybe your God is wrong.
Peace to you.

Gee,I wonder why Tutu said that?Hmmm?
What if a pedophile said the same thing ,would that disuade you from being Christian?
I will not be deterred. When I die if it is true.I'll be in bliss. If I'm wrong? I'll never know will? Just be a lump of worm food.

The whole God thing?................I dont need to see Him physically, I feel His presence all around me, I don'n even need to assure of myself if exists or not, I am definite that He is just above me........To have faith is to believe..I believe so I see, I see Him in all the beautiful creations He made in this world....I see Him in the goodness and kindness of people..I see Him present in all my predicaments and helping cope with them triumphantly..I see and feel Him everywhere...while you believe this can be nuts..and more nuts to come...I stand firm that I believe there is God.........right now, He si there touching your head and letting you feel His presence,,you are having goose bumps now..and I just hope and Pray that there will be a better way for you to feel His presence.........did I sound nuts alright?i leave it all up to you.........God Bless!!!

He'd have to appear before me, whisk me to Mars for 10 minutes, cure my debilitating ailment, and let me talk to my dead mother for 60 minutes. I seriously doubt that it would take much effort on his part to do those things.
