should they use a special book for each religion..like a koran for a terrorist friends when we have them in our courts? Why would they tell the truth by putting their hand on a bible?

Well, you don't.
If it is a Christian, you know that they are more likely to tell the truth. They know that they will have to face the Lord.
It's like being a child and getting in trouble with your parent, you knew you were gonna' get it when you get home.

oh right. as if a Christian laying his hand on a Bible insures truth will be told or a vow will not be broken. GW Bush, the Christian's political messiah, put his hand on a Bible and vowed to protect and defend the Constitution and then went right to work dismantling it's every meaning and using the pieces for toilet paper.

It is no longer compulsory to swear on any book in a court of law, you merely have to raise your right hand and affirm and avow that you are telling the truth.

The same way you would tell if a Christian is telling the truth. Everybody can lie.
Most of us don't need a bible to tell the truth.

I affirm as well, but it has nothing to do with religioun. Swearing is an oath to god. You will have to take my word based on my reputation. I won't swear an oath to god over a trivial criminal case (and from that point of view they are all trivial)

Not every court uses a bible. I have to testify in court often in my work, and in my area you raise your right hand and swear.

You don't know...Though it is more common to raise your right hand and do it...And even then you can't be entirely sure...
But someone who does lie under the oath, is probably a bit odd.
