My sister has contacts, and believe me it takes quite a bit of geting use to. They can be really hard to put in because your eyes are sensitive to touch. See your eye doctor and they will teach you how to put them in and take care of them.
They also cost alot. You have to keep them in the formula and you also need to take them in and out during the night and day. You can't wear contacts to sleep.
If you play alot of sport they can also fall out, and it's impossible to find them after they fall out.
I would rather get glasses. The cost will be around 100 dollars a month.
Your eyes can also get infected, which happened to my sister recently.
I would definetely stick with the glasses.
They will make you look better, but it's your choice.
Comfort of looks?
:) Good luck!

There are many more health issues relating to contact use than to glasses. You do have to follow the care instructions for your particular type very carefully, and some require daily care. In addition you will have the extra expense of purchasing them, plus you will want glasses too just in case you have an irritation and need to stop using contacts for a time. For those reasons your parents are justified in their concern.
Here's a tip, offer to do some extra chores to earn the contacts, then stick to the routine to convince your parents you really want them. I bet they will be impressed, and don't stop doing the chores if you do get the contacts.
(I alternate wearing both contacts and glasses. I have had comments on my eyes, but often people who see me in glasses for the first time tell me how great I look in them also....so you never know what others think looks good on you. )

Yikes! First I just need to tell Bootay and others who may be using any brand of saline that this is NOT the same as contact lens solution! Saline is essentially sterilized water, and it does not have ANY of the ingredients to clean or disinfect your lenses that proper multipurpose solutions have. Seriously, you are putting your eyes at risk because the germs and proteins that build up on lenses after a day of wear are not being removed when you use saline for cleaning/rinsing/storing them. Please, please get some proper CL solution!
Now that that's out of the way, I agree with many of the above posters that taking proper care of your contact lenses is the key part of being responsible enough to wear them. Your optometrist will tell you the best way to care for your lenses. The main points are to rub them with your multipurpose solution EVERY time you take them off (even for "no rub" solutions), never use saliva to wet them, change your soaking solution every day, and wash your hands every time you are going to touch your eyes or lenses. There are lenses available now that are approved for sleeping in for up to 30 nights; you may want to talk to your optometrist about this option (but do not sleep in just ANY contact lens if you don't know it is approved). As a contact lens wearer you should get your eyes checked every 6 months-1 year to make sure they are not causing changes to your eye health. You should also have a back up pair of glasses for days when you are sick or have red eyes-- you should not wear contacts on those days.
I don't think contact lenses are 'easier to handle' as you put it, but they are an option for many people who do not like glasses for whatever reason. They are a responsibility though and there can be serious consequences to your eye health and vision if you don't treat them properly! Good luck!

The most important thing about wearing contacts is that you must keep your contact lens case, your solutions free from contaminants. You also need to have scrupulously clean hands when handling them. If you don't take these precautions, you could be in for a serious eye infection.
Also, when you start wearing them, you have to stick to the schedule that the doctor gives you. you usually start out slowly and add time until you are able to wear them all day.
I have worn contacts for many years and I love them. Good luck!

they're not bad, but you have to baby your eyes and you contacts all the time. i've been wearing them for years, but now i get severe dry eyes, so i have to keep buying products for my eyes all the time. plus, contacts can be expensive. they ones i use you're supposed to throw them away ever two weeks, and get a fresh pair. but i'm too poor to do that, so i wear them for about four months, and then throw them away. i just make sure i clean/rub them two or three times a week, even when the solution says 'rub free'. i switched to the equate brand saline, and it seems to work just fine.

well, there's the risk that your eyes might get infected because of dirty contact lenses.
-contact lenses require extensive care and cleaning.
-you must clean them with contact lens solution before you put them on and when you take them off.
-you must put them in a container and submerge them in the contact lens solution (i think the optical clinic will advise you how to do this).
-the solution where your contact lenses are submerged in must be changed frequently..every day, if possible
-once a contact lens pops out of your eye, you must clean it before you put it back in, otherwise, you're risking your eye being infected with germs. (contact lens solution must be at your reach at all times in case your contacts pop out accidentaly)
-you must NEVER sleep with your contact lenses on, or else they'll get stuck somewhere in the socket of your eye and will lead to further complications.. just NEVER ever sleep with contacts on!
-avoid rubbing your eyes.. your contacts will either: pop out unexpectedly (and you'll have to use the solution to clean them and put them back in) or will be moved around your eye such that it might get lost and you'll have to find it.
-don't go swimming with them. the water has bacteria that may cling to your contacts and cause infection.
anyway, i think the optical clinic will orient you about contact lenses..
i'm not discouraging you or anything..if you know you are responsible enough to handle contact lenses, go ahead and get them!
