Please get your dogs spayed and neutered.

There are lots of really good tempered, adorable unwanted puppies and dogs at shelters and humane societies all over the U.S. Don't contribute to the pet overpopulation.

There are already 2 dogs for every 1 person in the U.S. Leave breeding to professionals.

Don't become a backyard breeder. Dogs don't need to just be put together and used as vending machines to make a quick buck. Dogs of breeding quality need to have a mirage of health tests and have some show or field championship titles behind their names. The breeders need to understand everything about breeding including what can go wrong and be willing to invest in quality vet care for the female and for the puppies. If done properly, the cost of the puppies will barely cover the costs of the vet care and time investment.

Firstly, is your boy of correct breed type and registered with the Kennel Club. Are you registered as a breeder? Do you understand anything, at all about breeding and genetics? I hate to disappoint you but your male dog has not asked for a female. You have decided that you are going to become the most hated of all pet owners...a backyard breeder. Have your dogs been tested for genetic defects? Do you know anything about the heartache involved in breeding, have you got owners lined up, do you have around $1500 set aside on the off chance your female will need a ceasarian?

Don't be foolish. Enjoy your dog. At only 7 months of age, he has a lifetime of love and companionship to give, rather than turning him into a baby making machine.

Almost everybody loves puppies. Who could resist that sweet puppy breath or soft, downy fur?

Unfortunately, when it comes to dog breeding, a love of puppies is simply not enough to breed your dog. Hundreds of puppies are born every day, and hundreds of adorable puppies are put to sleep in shelters across North America. We have a serious pet overpopulation problem right now.
The Reasons People Want to Breed Their Dogs:

I want another one just like my dog.
I want to make money.
I want my children to witness the miracle of birth.
Puppies are cute, there's always people who want puppies.
The Reasons People Should NOT Breed Their Dogs:

I want another one just like my dog.
This never works according to plan. When a dog gets pregnant, the puppies will take the father's traits, personality, and physical, and the mother's traits, and mix them up, taking some of one, some of another, and developing their own altogether. You will never get a perfect match. In stead you may end up with the worst traits of both dogs.

Even cloning a dog (see Cloning Your Dog) has proven that while a genetic match is possible, looks and temperament are still in the hands of Fate.
I want to make money.
I can't believe people can still think they can make money off of puppies. The cost of breeding will overshadow any profits you think to make. The puppies need their first shots before going to their new homes, the mother needs frequent check-ups, and heaven forbid if something goes wrong. And something always goes wrong.
I want my children to witness the miracle of birth.
This "miracle" can now be easily viewed by both children and adults thanks to such wonderful programming as "A Baby Story" and "Maternity Ward", both available on cable television.

Not only that, but how much of a "miracle" will your child be seeing if your beloved pet dies halfway through delivery?
Puppies are cute, there's always people who want puppies.
No, unfortunately this is the most ignorant assumption made these days. Not everybody wants puppies. Hundreds die everyday because of the lack of homes. How heartbreaking to hold a twelve week old puppy and put her to sleep because somebody thought for sure there would be somebody else who wanted her.
For every puppy born, three die in shelters. There are too many out there and not enough homes for them all.

If this is not enough reasons to stop you from breeding your dog, then here are a few more:

Complications in birth and pregnancies happen all the time. You could face losing your dog to death, and all the puppies with her. Will YOU pay the $1200.00 for a much-needed emergency cesarean section when she cannot deliver the pups?
What about sexually-transmitted diseases? That stud dog you had picked out may have one. They are more common than you think.

How about genetic diseases? They abound.

Breeding is not a careless affair, it is so much more than bringing b**** and stud together during a heat cycle.

Please think it over carefully.

Sorry about the copy+paste, but this sums everything up perfectly.

I hope you find a nice puddle.
I do NOT hope that you become another clueless back yard breeder - millions of dogs, purebred puddles included, are killed every year because there aren't enough homes for them - think this out and do the responsible thing - spay your female and rescue another poodle if you want more.

This is no way to made money - on the suffering of animals.

Here's my canned answer....

WOOOHOOO! welcome to the Backyard Breeder Club. The only requirements are that you
1. Have no Idea what your doing
2. Breed dogs with no credentials or pedigree
3. Specialize in mutts, "designer dogs",extra small, extra large, or "rare specimens".
4. Incorrectly breed dogs with no regard to age or health.
5. Breed because your dog needs to have one litter or because your dog is "awesome" or you "love puppies"
6. Give no regard to where your puppies go as long as they get sold
7(most important!). Make lots of money

If breeding Multiple dogs, you are up for consideration into the Puppy Millers Club

I hope your breeding goes well and your b*tch doesnt die during delivery.

Dogs, especially males, DO NOT CARE if they have a litter of puppies, I've known male "fathers" that have attacked and killed their own puppies. I fostered a momma dog a couple of weeks ago for the rescue I volunteer with and she was the most miserable dog I've ever met. No female actually enjoys, going through heat, which is very stressful (for her and her people), being mugged by males, being pregnant, and giving birth (if she lives) , add to that the horrible amount of energy she has to put out to raise puppies (if she does and you dont get stuck bottle feeding them every 2 hours), and then them getting their teeth and tearing up her stomach... well no dog actually WANTS to have puppies, any dog is healthier and happier spayed/neutered. Being intact is stressful on their bodies and minds and is not the way for them to be happy. My stepmothers champion bulldog was bred, had puppies, hated life, didn't nurse them requiring us to bottle feed them and now wants nothing to do with them when they come and visit. She has gone after her own puppies on more than one occasion and is no longer allowed contact with them. Do yourself and the THOUSANDS of poodles being killed every day in shelters a favor and neuter your dog, and if you get a female for him to have a companion, spay her. Everyone will be happier for it.

I forgot to mention: this momma dog and her 5 puppies I fosterd, well she started out with 14, 5 died shortly after/during birth due to complications, and another 4 were put to sleep at a week old because there is no way our rescue will be able to place 9 mix breed pups. You may think people will want your puppies, and they might, until they're not puppies, what happens when these people get tired of potty training and chewed shoes and take them to the shelter and drop them off? They get put to sleep, if you think they're too cute, someobody will adopt them, your wrong. They will die.

What is a puddle???

You have a lot of research to do before you breed anything.
I don't think you have a clue the heartache and stress that comes with breeding a litter of puppies...
Besides a dog for $300 will come with luxated patellas, hypothyroid, tracheal collapse ect.

You aren't starting out very well.. You want to produce a litter you should start out with the best you can.. You start out with cheap badly bred dogs, you produce litters full of badly bred puppies. Start out right.. No sense producing more badly bred poodles.. I am sure the poodle people will agree, people are messing with the poodles too much..

Ask your vet. He will know of any litters of pups in your area. Otherwise checkout the breed society who will put you in touch with breeders. However, it is very unlikely that you will get a pedigree puppy for $300.
