Coke has phosphoric acid compounds in it- rust remover.

It is quicker and easier to buy a chemical made for that purpose. If you spill that cola you might be setting up a feast for roaches who will appreciate the sugar content.

Anyway, I think that cola de-rust story was made up by purists who want you to drink only bottled water.

I don't know about de-rusting pipes, but it will clean off the cables of your batteries, quite easily.

no, not very well. they tried this on mythbusters (discovery channel) and found that it only removed some rust from metals. it is, however, a good chrome cleaner
