Allie (kitten in the avatar) has been staring at the swag light fixture for a few days now. At first I thought maybe there was a bug or a dust bunny on it catching her eye but there is none. Given her history of jumping on everything in the house, I have come to the conclusion she is planning an ambush on the light. It will fall when she does and I don't want her to get hurt. How would I go about discouraging her from it? I can't be with her all the time and she's pretty determined. I can't take it down so HELP!

i would try and make her scared of it. i make this little noice with PT and he knows when to run away. but then again you know cats, they can sit and wait till just the right moment. and it sounds like that light has been asking for it.

you have 3 options and that all of them require you to remedy the priority: a million. show extra duty in the direction of your pets than you do to the article at your house of abode and save the cats indoors. this will require you to alter the form of alarm you're making use of. 2. call Animal administration and have them do away with the undesirable animals. this would in basic terms take care of the present animals, no longer any destiny unfastened rangers that ought to come onto your assets. 3. Fence your abode so as that the community animals won't be able to get on your cats. you are the human, it is your duty to do all you could to maintain your animals risk-free and look after. Having an alarm is not any excuse for no longer retaining your cats indoors, neither is "they stay interior the storage" which isn't an outstanding place for cats to be because of the fact that they discover the flavour of anti-freeze as tasty as catnip or perhaps the smallest quantities could make your cat very unwell.

She is a cat, cat's love to play and climb and pounce, it's their nature. How high up is this light, can you move it or move anything nearby so she cannot reach it? Rearrange the room perhaps? I know your worried about her getting hurt but from my experience with our cats they bounce off everything, i even found my one cat on the top of the door balancing on the edge...she may attack the lamp but as soon as it falls she is going to jump away from the falling item and run and hide, scared from it all and that will most likely end her obsession with the lamp. I don't see it hurting her as I have had our cats knock a lot of stuff over and they always jump away and run off.

The only thing I can think of is to move furniture so that it isn't close enough for her to jump at it.
Give her something else to take her mind off the light.
Good luck.
Cats are determined creatures.

Cover it somehow until she doesn't have any interest in it. Then when she forgets and moves on to something else, then you can uncover the light fixture.

If she can reach it so can you (?).
Throw a dark towel or something over it. Sorry you can't use the light for a few days until she forgets about it.

My cat ALWAYS attacks the ceiling fan, and she has NEVER been hurt, so I souldn't worry about it. what's the worst that can happen? She falls on her feet?
