if someone gave you one, what would you do with it, wear it or throw it away?

I would keep it. I may wear it if I like it.

A blessed item should not be thrown away. It can be given away or if you don't want it, you should bury it or burn it.

i have one, also a scapular and a Divine Mercy (aka Jesus I trust in Thee) medal. they are all meaningful as they came to me from someone out of love and concern. i have a friend who is not Catholic & i gave her a little icon of Mary holding Jesus and another for Christmas of the Nativity. They had been blessed by pope John Paul II. she loved the beauty & truth they represented and felt honoured that i thought of her. while she is not Catholic, she enjoys them as a gift from a loving friend with whom she share the bond of sisterhood in Christ.

I have one of the Blessed Virgin and also of St Anne, both have been blessed and I wear them with my crucifix

They are gifts, you should keep it. I have many from people and I have them all. You could make a charm bracelet from them!
