The idea is your feet hurt for a specific reason. The reason is the specialty of the Podiatrist, could be inward, or outward turn, fallen arches, heel spur, even the way you walk. Therefore you need to see the Podiatrist, find out the mechanical problem and have the insoles made to 'correct' the specific problem. You need your feet, usually for life and I think they are worth more than 400 Dollars, unless you think life in a wheelchair is less expensive? Therefore, get the problem sorted and enjoy life walking rather than disabled. Good Luck

There is nothing as good as custom orthotics from the podiatrist. But you can try the generic cheap orthotics from pharmacies. I recommend the brand Spenco. Costs $20-30. Unlike the other cheap orthotics, it's hard plastic for proper support. You may have to buy online, they're not common in stores. Here's one:

Just keep this in mind, cheap orthotics only help with your medial arch, they don't help with other arches or additional support for the heel. When you're ready -- after 9-12 months from wearing Spenco's, I recommend to get customs from the podiatrist.
