On the recipe it says to "beat with a wooden spoon". Does it HAVE to be wooden? Is there an alternative because I do not own a wooden spoon. Thanks for answers!

A serving spoon would be acceptable. It gets just about the same result as a wooden spoon. I think they just ask you to use a wooden spoon because it is easier to get the mixture off of the wood than the metal. Also the density of wood makes it easier to stir. Plastic would actually be my second choice. If you have a plastic spatula or a large plastic spoon it would be useful.
Hope it helped!
Cheers!

Yes it is best to use a wooden spoon because some plastic utensils or cheap spatulas will melt because of the extreme heat.

The reason a wooden spoon is because the fudge will get real thick.A spatula is weak and will bend.Try using a more sturdier spoon like a large stainless steel spoon.

Just mix it with anything that won't melt. I know a lot of recipes say "wooden spoon", but it's just so that it won't scratch the pan (metal) and it won't melt (plastic).

Good luck! Fudge is great...

Buy yourself some wooden spoons, they are the greatest things to cook with. Use them in all your stove-top cooking, they don"t get hot, they wash well, they come in different lengths and sizes, and they are strong and cheap.

use something the same size as a wooden spoon, but if it's plastic and you're mixing it over the stovetop, be careful that the plastic doesn't melt. (and if it's metal, be careful the metal doesn't get too hot!)
