Hi I just got into the Navy DEP program to go active duty as a MA. I was wondering if I could switch from active duty to reserves before I ship. My ship date is 1-29-08. I've been thinking about it and would like to finish my education right now and not later. So would I keep my rating and ship date or would I have to reclass and get a different ship date. I just feel like I made a mistake going active at this time. Thank you

first
talk to you recruiter
then you should be able to keep you same shipping date
and there gonna ***** about it but they will do it
the one major down side to this is that you have to go back to meps and go through all that process again
and a crap load of paper work
well good luck

hope it goes well
peace

You can back out of going active duty.

But you might have to start all over again.

As to whether you can keep your rate.

That depends on what Naval Reserve Unit you plan on joining.

Unlike the active forces, Reserve units only have a limited number of rates assigned.

So you would have to choose a rate, that your local reserve unit has on thier manning charts.

You can, but you'll have to revoke your enlistment into active duty and repeat the process, so the appropriate recruiter gets credit.

As above you can-get with the recruiter and he can do he necessary paperwork; he won't be happy but if the alternative is losing a contract in total he will do it.
