I'm just curious how many people actually know that there is such a thing out there called PKU and I want to see what you all know. I know what PKU is, I actually know what PKU is very well but I want to see what you know. So if you know anything about PKU now is your time to 'gloat.'

I just thought I'd write that PKU is a disorder not disease and it isn't 'fake sugar' as you put it (which I'm guessing your talking about asparteme) that Phenylketonurics can't break down. But your sort of one the right path I guess. Butterfly is much closer though.

It is a fairly rare genetic disorder. Use this link to the Mayo Clinic web site. They have a lot of good info about treatments and coping with the condition. I do know that babies are routinely screened for the disorder because the earlier it is addressed the better the outlook.

PKU is basically a genetic disorder in which the body doesn't have an enzyme. and this enzyme breaks down amino acid and the amino acid i think is called phenylalanine (probably spelt wrong). And sooo i think when ur born u get tested for it or something like that and if you don't get tested then some symptoms start coming up. But i also think that its like the recessive traits from both parents or something. and i think its something like 50 percent of a chance that children can get PKU (thats way to long to type out...lol)

I know it is a disease you are born with, which makes your body unable to digest fake sugar that is in almost anything, and everything such as Diet Soda's, anything sugar free is loaded with it, even chewing gum. But that is really all I know.

PKU is that little yellow fella that shoots lightning out of his butt.
