After you smoke marijuana, is it true that for the next couple days (or next week) your brain remains a bit "foggy?" As in, smoking marijuana this weekend might negatively affect your ability to study and perform on a test next week? Thanks for any insight.

The active ingredient in Cannabis, or marijuana as you call it, is delta 9 tetra-hydro-cannabinol, or THC , for short.
The fact is that THC is FAT soluble, whereas most drugs are water soluble. So instead of being excreted through the kidneys and out of your body via the urine, THC stays in the fat cells of your body, and can remain there for quite some time, maybe 45 to 60 days.
This is a measure of detectable levels, and in the twenty years since used to party, the tests have gotten more sensitive. It used to be 3 days, and they couldn't detect the THC.

it really depends on how potent the MJ. was and how much of it you smoked. sometimes things are somewhat foggy for next following few days after the initial contact.
